From what I've read it depends on where you go in France. If you go to the resorts used by all the tour operators then queues will be huge. The smaller less famous resorts which the TOs don't use will usually have much smaller crowds.

Bellap, Was this the bar

Happy days indeed.

I went Feb 2006. On the way back our coach wasn't searched so you take your chances. Things might be different now. I think the time of day may have something to do with it. On the way home we reached the border before 8 am so the border patrol probably couldn't be bothered at that time of day to check, maybe.

Hi hackett87, I was there a few years ago. As said the Skiing on the Arinsal side is not extensive.

Oppposite the gondola, right of Hotel Montane, about 50m uphill along a side street was a very good little bar that looks like it's built into the rock face on the inside. Can't remember it's name but a very cosy, lively but not rowdy atmosphere, got free shots there.
Off course the Irish Bar is worth a visit, very busy and lively.

IIRC St. Gothards is down the hill, about 300m from the main nightlife area around the gondola.

Ski Helmets with Goggles

tobysdad, Have you thought about using daily disposable contact lenses? I find them extremely convenient when skiing. Pop them in when you wake up, no need to faff around with glasses when having lunch or apres ski in the evenings and take them off before sleeping. With contacts you can use ordinary sunnys and goggles - greater choice.

I've ordered contacts from http://www.visiondirect.co.uk/index.php
without any problems.

tobysdad, back to your question. You will not know if the goggles fit until you try them on. If you post what helmet you have and it's size and what goggles you are thinking about then there's an off chance another j2ski'er has tried that combination so they'll be able to tell you if they are compatible.

DaveW, I have sunnys which are 'designed' for sport but they're not impact resistant so I might get a pair of Bolles.

82ross, Thanks for the link. I think I'll get the pink tint just to be different.

A quick note about Chemmy Alcott

Great photos Elistine. Much better than ordinary ski photos of great snow, resort and happy hours.

About her skis, I was watching Ski Sunday and they had a segment about Lindsey Vonn and her personal ski technician. The ski tech said he has about 30 pairs of skis for Vonn and will select exactly the right pair for the conditions. When asked about how much time difference the correct pair of skis can make he said about 2 seconds. It's known Chemmy doesn't have that kind of support and financing around her, she'd ski faster if she did.
