Mary, Les Deux Alpes had at least one free nursery slope in 2007. It was about 50m in length IIRC.

If you're wearing sunglasses and you find the wind drying your eyes out then it's time to wear goggles IMO. Goggles shield the eyes completely from wind, snow, and importantly the sun and glare off the snow from every direction. Sunglasses do not. A face plant with goggles on is usually far less damaging to the wearer than doing the same with sunnies on. I personally would never ski ski with glass lensed and/or metal framed sunglasses. Go for the amber/persimmon lenses because I think they're the most suitable one lense solution across a range of light conditions. Also get dual lense goggles because they are more resistant to fogging IIRC. From what I've seen all branded goggles in TKMax are dual lense. Just my opinion. Some skiiers ski happily wearing sunnies in almost all conditions so they say, I don't. If you buy goggles always take them up the mountain because you never know when you might need them. Mountain weather can change very quickly. Be prepared. |

Unless you get better advice I'd say just book online for cover starting from tomorrow. Hopefully you won't need to make a claim, should you do you can still legitimately say the online booking was accepted and payed for so should be binding even if you are booking it from the resort.
My gut feeling is that it shouldn't matter whether you buy insurance a day before you need it or weeks before but WARNING of course gut feeling counts for ZILCH where the law is concerned. You must be absent minded or have skiied so much that you 'forget' to buy insurance. Anyway have fun. Edit: Just read bandit's post. Bandit seems to know the actual facts so booking now might be too late. |

mikei, When you say people tell you to go faster how 'slow' are you going?
Even at moderate speeds I can feel and hear the wind resistance on my clothing. Are you parallel turning down the black in medium to small radius turns or going far left to far right horizontally along most of the piste width before turning? |

I think Tignes and Val Thorens are two of the highest, if not highest, resorts in France.

I knew someone would ask this. Of course location makes a huge difference. I think one place was Saas Fa(Swiss?), another was La Thuile(Italy) and it was Serre Chevalier in France from memory. No doubt Western Canada has epic powder and far more snow but I'm not good enough to ski powder or the more challenging off-piste. |

I'm not sure why you'd call it a bargain. Just looked at CrystalSki's website for a trip 10th Jan flying from London and prices start at
£519 for Canada £281 for France £345 for Austria £315 for Italy £292 for Switzerland for self-catering. |

Tony_H, I used RocketSki for a trip to France. The booking, flights, transfers, ski-pass purchase, ski&boot hire, and hotel check-in/out all went smoothly. I don't expect anything more from a non-premium tour operator and also as part of a group of guys going skiing we just wanted to ski. |
