Mid Term Break 2011
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 7 Replies
Wanderer,
Why go at Feb Half term?
We go every Easter, Never had bad snow, very few queues and weather better for the kids.
We're off to Samoens in just over 3 weeks...been seeing everyone else go and come back several times, but it's something to look forward to.

Incidentally, it's our 4th trip with the kids to Grand Massif, worst was Feb HT...the slopes were crowded, found the place far too busy. The snow was rubbish too, but that was the bad year of 07, everywhere was the same.

I've heard it said that Italy doesn't suffer as much from the crowds in Feb tho.

Johntin,
I wouldn't name the people either. I see that you were sharing your experience and were not looking to name and shame.
We are renting an apartment privately next month and i wouldn't name the person who I'm renting it from either.
It may get sorted amicably, and you'll be happy.
It may be bad for their future business
Or it may make them more awkward.

I for one appreciate your post though, it has made me more aware of the possible downfalls and I will email him how he expects the apartment to be left.

Welcome to the Forum :D

This year was my first year for wearing a helmet as well but my head didn't get sweaty.

Ally

I agree with you Ally, it is just like my feet they never get sweaty hence the one pair of socks
So there must be a comparison somewhere between my feet and Ally's head

Perhaps your socks have lots of holes like Ally's helmet? )
I'm not keen on dry slopes, having broken my wrist on one. But in terms of practise (and if it's all you've got) then I think there is a place for them.
My kids used to belong to the ski club at Gloucester dry slope and some the kids were amazing skiers.

One of the girls had only used the dry slope and never been on snow. After 2 snow trips (her 1st ever time was to race in the English Championships) she was chosen to train with the British Squad.

I' don't suppose she'll never be Chemmy Alcott, but all her early skills were learnt on plastic.

It definitely helps as at least you'll know what to expect on your 1st day.

Stewart Dowling wrote:PS. I dont care if anyone wears a helmet, a woolly hat, a bowler hat, a fez, a baseball cap, a beanie, a panama hat, even a jimmy hat.
It is an individuals choice in what they wear and how they are going about their business.
My choice is mine and mine alone.

I wish someone who doesnt wear either would join this debate and give a 3 dimension to it.

I would rather never wear a hat at all. They just don't suit me.

I don't care if someone wears one or not either. Agree it is personal choice.

Got a helmet last year, looks as crap as a woolly on me, but I did take a fall on ice and saw stars. So for me, see point in them. But am in total agreement - each to their own.
