Holiday costs effected by brexit?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 8 Replies
What was noticeable and confirmed by one travel agent was the lack of availability of early booking discounts in holidays priced in Sterling back in the spring. On our group trip this equated to a 20% price increase over the previous year for the same accommodation.
It will be "interesting" to see if any tour operators use their small print bring in a supplement to holidays due to a weaker pound rules. Tour operators do hedge forward bookings. I know that a $$$ trip for this new year was hedged at £1 to $1.44 when I paid the deposit in May.
As a comparison for the 2009 ski season the pound ran at 1.04 to 1.08 to the Euro.

The trouble is Adders that once you have drawn the attention of the Gods to oneself they don't leave you alone!
Everywhere I go it seems to snow now :(
I fancy some blue skies this year while skiing :)
I've never been to Kaprun and am looking forward to it with an open mind :)
Apparently I will be expected to get on a bus some of the time !!!
But as it is now October it is officially time to check the webcams daily and get over excited after 2" of snow !!

We have recently added another to the merry throng going to Kaprun.
As AllyG posted above - there is space for a female share both for the first and/or second week.
Also a possible for a male share for the first week.
Harder to say on single room availability - this is down to what is possible when we enquire (one single was available for the first week when I last checked recently).
Recap - Hotel Tauernhof, Kaprun - 21st or 28th January 2017 (either or both weeks). Links and pricings on first page of this thread.

Mixed ability skiing trip to Europe

February is the start of the high season when prices shoot up quite a lot.
Late January or March will be a lot less and considerably quieter.
On your cost - is E20/25 for accommodation only? If so I assume you are thinking self-catering?
For a budget holiday, certainly in France (the country I know best), the cost of food bought in the mountain supermarket and certainly in any restaurants will be expensive (from a low cost perspective) and self-catering is often NOT the budget option.
As a group of students wanting a good deal on a budget look at some cheap and cheerful hotels.
I had a two minute search on UCPA (French Youth Hostels) and for less than E600 you get accomodation, most food, ski hire and lift pass and lessons! You won't beat this organising a self catering trip on your own.
Have a search around the internet for budget/student/low cost trips.
The other thing to consider is transport - where are you coming into in Europe? The UK? Getting to the snow will be need to be factored in as well.
Good luck.
If you add more details about your group and hopes etc you may get more suggestions.

Drop me a PM for more info if Kaprun at the end of January appeals.
I think there are single rooms available still or possibly sharing.
