If I were choosing I would go early March. After the main school holiday period is over.
At this time of year things are warming up a bit and there will be a good snow base.
I would look at a second stream french resort as with your group the biggest won't be needed ( 3Valleys, Espace Killy, etc - very expensive relatively unless you can get the most out of the place). So.....
Serre Chevalier could be good.
Alpes D'Huez
Les Deuz Alpes - to name only three.
There are loads of smaller really lovely resorts.

Add Avoriaz to your list. Not a pretty place but snow sure and plenty of self catering available.
Excellent for the newbies and plenty of skiing close by for yourself.
You don't want a resort where you can't get back to the nursery slopes easily to meet up.
Montgenevre is a long drive from Geneva - Turin much closer.
Flaine could be good.
The resorts further south (Alpes D'Huez, Les Deux Alpes) are too far. Driving times are extended in winter due to the weather and then the number of cars/buses on the road.
The Tarentaise resorts are on the limit for your 2 hours. Valmorel is the closest, followed by Val Thorens, La Plagne and Les Arcs. Valmorel could work for you - a nice compact and fairly small place.
When do you plan to go?
This makes a big difference to both price and snow reliability.
With a mixed group you probably want a resort where the accommodation is close to the main lifts and the easier lifts/pistes.
Any country preference?
Are any of the group that good that they will want access to a really wide variety of terrain to ski with plenty of challenges?
Did I read that the old red cable car on the other side of the nursery area is going?
Pity as this served people coming from that residential area. The new lift may increase cross traffic over the nursery are which can be a little hectic at times with people zooming in all directions.
I am away now until the beginning of September.
So - anyone wanting any info about joining us post on here rather than PM me please.
Someone will be along to offer help/information and all that.

The group is floating around in the low 20's at the moment.
I've sent Doug a PM - historically we have done very well in linking people up to share rooms on our trips.
So - anyone remotely interested get in touch.

We are up to about 20 now, spread over 2 weeks from January 21st.
A single female share is available for both weeks and possibly a male share first week.
On single rooms I am not sure (Hotel been closed for their holiday in May) but possible, first week probably easier/more space than second.
Full details of this trip to the Hotel Tauernhof in Kaprun on the first page of this thread.

I am in touch with a few people who would like to come but won't be in a position to confirm until later in the year but having a very flexible trip should make many things possible.
Use the Paris to Chambery over night this winter - completely full!
