VDI is one of my favourite resorts and I'm kind of jealous (though we're off to 3Valleys so cant complain!)

A day in Tignes checking out stuff like the Aguille Perce (rock with a hole in it) and heading all the way down to Tignes les Brevieres (snow permitting but I see no reason why not this winter)

Bars in town are great with plenty of choice - we liked Bananas at the bottom of the face run - free WiFi too! as well as Cafe Face (opposite the legendary Dicks Tea Bar which is eye wateringly expensive so bit unfair that the reps sometimes have their welcome mettings there.....) Cafe Face has good happy hours and live music most of the time

Can't help you with a review of that chalet though I'm afraid

Made almost exactly the trip that you're talking about (except we went all the way up to Pas de La Casa) in 2003

We hired from EasyRentACar (really on the cheap) and didn't bother with chains at the reccomendation of the English bloke who worked in the hire shop

No problems whatsoever going up or coming down as the roads are very well maintained

However a huge dump of snow meant that the car park we'd parked in was horrendous and we spent hours digging everyone else out before we could even start on our cars parked at the far end!

So the question may not be "do I need snow chains" but rather, as ricardoleiria suggests, "do I need to take the car at all"

We missed the flight by 24 hours so our cheap holiday wasn't as we had to pay EasyJet for one way tickets again - snow chains wouldnt have made any difference whatsoever!

I watched "The Season" last year - from your description this is a repeat as it sounds familiar.

I agree entirely that it's so bad it HAS to be watched!!!

Never saw any of them in VDI last year sadly...... :(

The whole Belleville valley is an intermediate's paradise - only one word of warning:

If you head up to Val Thorens then use the lifts to go high and ski down to get back - don't be tempted by the blue/red (it seems to change from year to year)"Boulevard de Cumin" which heads down the valley from VT to Les Menuires - once you get past the first short drop its pretty much FLAT :-(

Annoying on skis, probably soul destroying on a board

Pluviometre is a lovely cruise dwon from the cable car that brings you back from Meribel to VT

I'm back there on the 29th Jan and cant wait

Chalet Aimee, Val Thorens

Hi All,

Haven't been on here for a while so apologies but thoughts now turning to booking for 2011

I'm getting a good deal offered for Chalet Aimee in Val Thorens by Crystal

I've skiied VT and the 3 Valleys before so that's no problem but wondered if anyone has experience of this particular chalet?

Cheers

-20 in Vermont last year and the Buff froze to my beard (which i only had for the express intention of keeping my chin warm - its a bloke thing!)

Naffest bit of kit is a pair of ski ties from "Danni Sports" in Verbier that I got for winning the Inghams quiz....
