Just thought I'd post to the thread in general to let peeps know that I have this resolved now:
It seems Crystal weren't fobbing me off as such - VDI have been giving them "buy one get one half price" since August on Espace Killy passes and they've chosen to top that up to "buy 1 get one free" to stimulate interest in what has been a tough ski season so far for the operators (allegedly). Although my booking was made long before this offer and so not eligible for BOGOF they have agreed to give me the buy one get one half price offer so I've still saved around £100 per couple - not complaining! Thanks for all the input - especially NellyPS If anyone else is going to VDI/Tignes with TUI (Thomson/Crystal/First Choice) then it may be worth a bit of badgering! Andy |

I went to Mountain Warehouse just before Christmas to "have a look" at some new lightweight salos as mine had knackered zips and I like to have a choice over my heavyweight ones which can be too warm on a sunny Alpine day.
Came out an hour later with 2 pairs of pants for me, a new pair for the wife, a puffer jacket for her and a breathable top (also for her - spot a trend?). It was all cheap anyway, they were having a 20% off day and we got talking to the manager who gave us a bit more discount and some chapsticks on carabenas to clip to your gear (cool for free) - and it was still only about £90!!! I LOVE gear shops - but HATE my bank manager  |

What better way to show your love than with a trip to the slopes? |

Hi All,
Skied Livigno 3 years ago and had a great time - it's wonderful intermediate terrain that will have you gain in confidence on reds and some easy blacks as it's wide, sunny and, as already noted, tends to be pretty quiet. Transfer is a pain - we flew into Austria and took forever to get there but the bottles of Absolut for £4 made up for it (handy hint - an Absolut bottle fits into your boots perfectly with the clips on one notch - ideal transport home....) The bus service is excellent - yes the two mountains are separated by the valley but it takes no time to get from Carasello to Mottolino and vice versa and it's never bothered Kitzbuhel between the Horn and the Hannenkham so why should Livigno worry? Taxis in the evening are plentiful and cheap so, if you're not bothered about too much nightlife, it will cause you no problems (the slide-in bar is very cool). The sloooooooooooooow chair you mention is numbered 6 on my piste map and goes from top of Mottolino gondola to Mont Della Neve. It's very old, slow and you get cold on it (or did 3 years ago - we may be doing it a disservice if its been replaced) but there's a nice cruisy run down from there with beautiful views so worth putting up with at least once during your trip. The run down over the ridge to Trepalle is nice too as I remember (apparently its called "3 Balls" as its so remote and there's lots of interbreeding - or so our Italian instructor told us with a twinkle in his eye !) Enjoy it! Andy |
