Hi All,
Off to Val Thorens on the 29th so am now officially doing no work and all ski gazing..... Been to VT before and found that getting over to the Courchevel valley was nice and easy so can see us having lunch in that area at least once The last time we got stiffed for a fortune by having beer and crepes at piste side - I was young and stupid......... So - any good suggestions for good quality and Value for Money places to stop for lunch. I dont want a 3 course jobbie at lunch but a nice trip out is always a highlight of the week (and if its fondue then its a double, nay Brucie, bonus!) Thanks in advance Andy |

Dont have my copy to hand but the description of VDI in Where to Ski and Snowboard says something like "the piste grading is too inconsistent" and that one local instructor informed them that "we have to have greens and blues marked to attract all sorts but we dont necessarily actually have any on the mountain"
Apologies if I've misquoted but you get the drift From personal experience I remember the first time I went to VDI with the wife and she was an absolute beginner so I went off to scope out runs we could do together when she was out of ski school - found some stuff that I thought fine of the top of the Bellevarde but she found the drop from the lift station to the start of the runs very daunting - its not really piste but is relatively steep and very busy of course. Took two more beginners to the 3 Valleys a few years ago and constructed a circuit from VT, thru Les Men, St Martin, Meribel, Courchevel and back again only on blues and encountered a blue that was most definitely red - luckily they were "in the zone" and found it challenging but not impossible - yet if I'd looked it over in advance I'd probably have had them ride the lift down over that run. What I'm trying to say is that scoping for yourself is the only way to really judge these things but even then there will be exceptions. |

as OldAndy says - hire may be cheaper in the long run
In France Ive hired off Ski Republic (a lot of people deride them but Ive been happy) for 42 euros for a week with their 2 for 1 offer I probably couldnt get them serviced for that much less transport them if I owned a set. That said I ski once a year, twice at most and live in the North east so no access to cheeky weekends and/or the snow train Love the X-Wing range personally but I'm rather taller and considerably heavier than you (bows graciously to the lady) |

Went ahead and booked this but would still be interested to hear if anyone has any experience - thought the boards would be busier at this time of year so I may get a better response?

Too right - I can (maybe from a cost point of view though still hugely disappointing) see them missing out the far flung stuff but "premier neige" in VDI is always in December so why wait a month of the European season? :x |

Oh yes - well mentioned - a great run that is manageable by any intermediate but is all about how much you want to push Lots of fun :D |
