If a buff is the proper name for my neck warming thingy, then I think they're great. I wear it round my neck most days when I'm ski-ing, and then when I'm on a chairlift and it's cold I pull it up over my face, right up to my goggles. And when it's snowing, it stops the snow going down my neck.
I wouldn't worry about what it looks like.
I await the photo for confirmation that it is my neck warming thingy :D

AllyG a buff is most certainly one of those "neck warming thingies"
They are great as a face mask until temperatures fall below -8 when the moisture then freexes and they turn into concrete

Thanks Brimster,
I must try and remember now that the proper name for my neck warming thingy is a buff :D
It was a lot colder than minus 8 when we were ski-ing a couple of weeks ago, but then I had it round my neck for most of the time. I suppose the trick would be to leave my nose out and stop breathing through my mouth, when I've got it up over my face, to avoid the nasty concrete creating effect you were talking about. Either that, or try using a snorkel

-20 in Vermont last year and the Buff froze to my beard (which i only had for the express intention of keeping my chin warm - its a bloke thing!)
Naffest bit of kit is a pair of ski ties from "Danni Sports" in Verbier that I got for winning the Inghams quiz....

Buff is a brand name. I think you have to say "Other neck warming thingies are available" :D
I seem to gain more every year. It started out as a walking neck warmer. Useful whilst skiing too. Then I discovered the Polar Buff with added fleecy bit. Perfect for skiing. Now they do UV protection buffs for summer walking. I must learn to say no. It is not necessary to buy one in each design that takes your fancy
As for most useless. I haven't succumbed to that yet.... With my fickle nature it can't be long. The sales are on soon.
EDIT: OMG, I've just been on the Buff site. They now do Dog Buffs. There's nothing I can add to that statement.
