Deffo deals to be had then - but getting to LGW costs me money and time as the flights dont match up well so its a night before job
With transfer times like that New England and eastern Canada are nearly as quick for me! |

Best of all was that it happened to the Boarder in our party who couldn't then decide what was worse on a board - nasty pitch slope with moguls or a drag lift...... ) |

Val d'isere in January with Inghams: £600 each for chalet board inc 4 course meals (canapes and aperitifs) and travel from Newcastle. 2 for 1 on lift passes means lift pass approx £100 each. 2 for 1 on ski hire at ski republic = approx £50 each So thats me done for £750 Tony - and that's in France that you always say is far too expensive (oh and Newcastle is expensive to fly from, much less if we lived in the south) Admittedly I will have one night of having to eat out and the odd beer but mostly will have duty free in chalet / free wine (choice of 2 reds and 2 whites this year in Inghams chalets) Thats cheaper than I've paid in previous years in France/Italy/Austria and Switzerland for similar (slightly less as you don't usually get 4 courses or a choice of wine and a free lift pass in the Espace Killy is unheard of) I think there's bargains to be had if one shops around (and has a mate who's atravel agent!) - again if we could fly from gatwick we'd be able to go even cheaper. Snow train isnt an option when it takes a day to get to Kent in the first place |

There's an ice driving track - not so good without snow mind you... :( |

I must have some sort of internal heating engine as I never ski in anything under my jacket bar a T-Shirt/Base layer (alright -20 in Vermont meant a jumper/sweatshirt/fleece on some days)
Bottom wise I have NEVER worn anything under my sallopettes and I'm often too warm in them anyway. My gear is good quality but not stupidly expensive so I'd say be prepared for anything as different strokes suit different folks it seems! Maybe Geordies are just hard/daft? Oh and deffo walking shoes for resort (worst fall I ever had was in trainers on an icy back road in Pas that broke 3 ribs but didn't stop me skiing)and some kind of slippers for chalet |

Went to Kitz a few years back with my wife for only her second week on snow.
Runs are plentiful and are generally quiet - meaning she was comfortable on "cruising" reds by the end of the week. Most chairs are/were (so should be better again) modern detachable jobs so plenty of uplift speed. Village itself is quite low so the bottom end of runs back to the town can be a little slushy/bald depending on their snowfall that year - the run down from the Horn was "interesting" with concrete in places on the Alpine low roads but still fun Town itself is very pretty with some great bars (the Londonder?) and live music etc. If you''re there after the races then it's no bad thing as if you go immediately before you don't get to ski the famous run (only a red on the map but if its tricked up for racing then it needs some thought!)
