Can you fix it for me for the snow to stop and the sun come out for Saturday the 3rd? Got my new skis this week - taking the train next Friday to arrive Sat morning (close call with the rail strike). I have had two very cold holidays this year and I was rather hoping for spring like conditions ) |

Sounds and looks good - relieved to see more photos of Mrs H than the Scott Neo's - I did wonder after the one of them looking romantically over the bridge

The girls look like they had a lot of fun

I'm with you there Tony - sometimes I do try and follow a line either of my own personal ski instructor (my son) or one on the slope but I find if I think too much about my technique I usually make mistakes. I can get down virtually everything at reasonable speed without falling over very often. It all adds to the enjoyment of being there and having the freedom to roam those hills. I will be checking whether I use the balls of my feet in three weeks time :D |

Beginner would you recommend artifical slopes for practise

I was at Chill Factore last night taking advantage of the 2.5. hours for 1.5 hour price 8) They also do a two for one on a Tuesday. There were lots of beginners/improvers and you do get the feeling of "real" snow and lots of posters have recommended the ski in a day package before the first holiday.
We were saying it could just do to be longer and steeper - I would love to go to the Dubai one sun, shopping and snow what a combination :D |

The Ski Helmet Debate

I decided after poor Natasha Richardsons death that I would still not bother wearing a helmet - I ski mainly on-piste and have never hit my head in 7 years. Imagine my horror when on my first day last year at Easter my ski caught in some slush, propelled me out of them head over heels onto the slope with the impact knocking me out. Mr PSC was behind (he knows his place ) and told me I was babbling on about her accident as I came too. Fortunately I ended up with a little bit of a headache and no other signs of concussion. As a result we are in the Converted to Helmet Wearing Army as opposed to Boris Johnson et al.
This year I observed a very similar accident to my own and the lady had clearly bumped her head on much more hard packed snow. Not trying to ram it down peoples throats obv - just my experience and reasons for wearing one now. I think all ESF instructors should wear helmets with different dayglo helmet covers similar to these http://www.epicoutfit.com/p-3851-mental-gear-funky-crazy-ski-helmet-cover-devilfree-first-class-shipping.aspx |
