I was there last year.
There are 2 cable cars / gondalas up to Avoriaz from Morzine. As a boarder I'd suggest taking the larger one (Prodains - I think it's called) otherwise you'll have a fairly long flat section to cover before getting anyway. This lift takes you to the bottom of Avoriaz town. A short ride from there is the bottom of several lift. The first one allows you to have an early test of your morning balance (a bit little a breath test for driving)... Then after that your right at the next lift to open up the rest of the PdS. Make a beeline to the STASH. If your a boarder that like kickers/grinds etc - very interesting. You'll struggle to get round the whole area - unless that is your 'goal'. Few too much to see and lines to find. |

Not so many 'bankers' there this year.... Is that the crunch of fresh snow, under foot I hear - or the financial meltdown of Canary Wharf??????? |

Bandit has hit the nail on the head there.
There are several 'free' parking areas dotted about the roads between the La Plagne villages. I guess it depends when you are arriving. The day and time will be important. Saturday / Sundays will see the most spaces becoming free, but also the most people looking for spaces too. If you're arriving early on a Saturday I'd risk unpacking close to your accommodation and then looking for a free space. Reason being - most people that drive to a resort are likely to perhaps pack up and leave middayish... therefore leaving spaces for you to find. Have fun |

Tony-H - I;ve been made redundant twice in the past 2 years. Each time I found a new job with the space of a few days/weeks.
Actually this time last year I was between jobs. Perhaps the world is different today than it was last year - but there is always opportunty out there somewhere. Best of Luck... |

I'd second the comments regarding Ski Plus in Chelmsford.
I bought my boots from there a short while ago. I'd suggest trying to go during the week to avoid the busy weekend. If this is not possible get there real early - so you get the best attention from the fitters. Cost - believe me, the fit/comfort will be remembered longer than saving a few pennies. |

1st - Check the double Ibroprofen (sorry for the spelling) have worked from the night before.
2nd - Go straight to the window to check weather. 3rd - Wake up everyone with the news of last night new snow fall and the current clear skys (sometimes have to fib a little) to get some of the lazy gits moving. 4th - Check the watch - how long to the first lift - Sh*t!! Hours away still.... 5th - Check weather again...and again.... 6th - Start getting ready (well only about an hour before the first lift - many things could happen before the first lift, that means you could miss it) 7th - Sit around waiting / checking weather. 8th - Go Go Go |

TonyH you're so right. I'm taking my son out the week before the offical Easter holiday for his school. It's saving about 60% of the total cost. Yes - it will be classed as unauthorised leave, by all concerned. Just hope I don't get a call from social services!!!!!!   I was taken on regular overseas holidays as a kid and suffer no ill effects. In fact I think I benefited as I am earning alot more than the teachers/LEA officals making such judgements on my parenting skills. ) Until kids are studying for 'real' exams - let them have some fun..... Good knows when they will have the time / money to do so in early adult life! |

Hi russco.
To get to Belle Plagne from 1800 you need to take two buses. Leave 1800 and then change at either a stop or at Plagne Centre. It only take 10mins (probably less) to get to Plagne Centre - but then you'll have to wait for the next bus that leaves for Belle Plagne. That could be a while. The bus from Plagne Centre does only take a further 10mins to get to Belle Plagne though. ANYWAY - with all that I wouldn't recommend it.... I'd suggest finding child care in Plagne Centre and then starting your skiing day from there too. Grumpy cold kids only produce grumpy adults. Make you life easy and skip the idea of a creche in Belle Plagne. |
