Hi - just read your message.

I'm off to La Plagne on 5th April. Staying in Plagne 1800. With my 7 year old son. We went at about the same time last year. The ski school 'Oxygene' is excellent for kids and adults, based in Plagne Centre, at about 2000m. Lots of easy buses to get you to Plagne Centre, if you can manage the pistes. Last year the snow was still in excellent condition at 2000m and even better up top - I left my son for his lessons in the morning - met up for lunch and then spent the afternoon on the fairly gentle slopes together in the afternoon.

There is enough for kids to keep them happy in the evening and the food is varied enough too.

He loved it so much we are returning to the same appts and he's asked for the same ski school.

Given the snow conditions NOW - the first week of April should be good too.

Book it now - you never know - may see you there!!!!!

Where do i start?

Yes - lessons would be a good idea - perhaps in the morning only, so you can practice and improve in the afternoon. You could have really hurt yourself by doing too much too early....

Buying a pair of skis, with only a days experience seems silly - rent some for a while and the you'll know if investing £300+ in skis is a good idea. Even then a pair of boots first would be a better idea. Unles you have money to burn.

When in Flaine find a guide that will also coach you (sorry no advice as who to choose) as you will be killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Great off piste adventure and also improve. Lots of guides will just ski off and let you follow - no help here to improve, actually just the opposite - my just trying to keep up means your 'jumps turns' will be a distance dream!!
Anyone been to Soll?

Always best to ask these types of questions before you book. But I agree with the last message.

For the past 2 years, I've skiied at this time. Avoriaz and La Plagne, with my 7 year son. The snow was super and the weather perfect. We return to La Plagne again for a week on 5th April. Looking at the condition now, this year should be good too. As long as you're 2000m plus this year should be cool.

Avoriaz is excellent for a short break. Very close to Geneva and the snow should be good. P&V offer accommodation for less than 7 night, at 'off peak times' cheap too.
A bit of a longshot....

Perhaps it's better to look for a special ski for the powder and a dual purpose twin tip for the park and piste??
