I'm going to offer my first carck at the five numbers and if I don't hear from Pavel I'll reload my almost worn out shot gun in time for Thursday.
Think about when we go to buy skis. Possibly we have some ideas what we want or would like. Undeucated ideas until this quizz!). We go into the store and see all these lovely skis displayed on the wall. Where to start? The loudest coloured ski will grab our attention. Buying is a fulfillment of an emotional need and the marketing experts know this. Make it lively - and they will come. We touch the ski we like the look of, we lift the ski to check the weight, we twist and ben the ski. Are all the factors withing what we think we can handle. We find a length that look good. If we are a bit wiser we will search out all that has been said about the ski through reviews. If Ellistine "tell" us how he liked the Mutix in his review we will try to find out what kind of skier he is to compare him to ourselves. We are searching for an answer to the question "how will it suit our ability?" And this is what the Pavel Index tells us. It is the most important number we should know as it tells the most useful information in a simple and concise manner. It is the 5th number we must know and as such let's assign it #5 So the numbers: 1. the number is 1 which is the number of ski days between waxing or tune-up in order for the skiing to be the best of magical times. 2.. the skis serial #, like 873420081, which is a unique number and therefore magical in the case of a lost or misplaced ski. It may help with the peace of mind issues. We lock up our skis and head inside hoping someone (with evil intentions) and with a cutting tool didn't watch us. But if they did and follow through we will have our serial # to fall back on. 3. Pavel's home telephone number a number like 1-800- 555 - 5555. Knowing this numbers would certainly have other skiers being "gobsmaked" by our knowledge. 4. I still think 4 is a magic number in that it represents the 4th month, April as the best time to get the best money saving deal. 5. 5 the number I suggest represents the Pavel Index as explained above. The Pavel Index is certainly a study in statistics. He tests a single ski set of a model, but there are hundreds of that model out there. His analysis is based on a confidence interval where the quality control at the manufacturing plant states one thing and Pavel's tests a sample ski to see if he agrees with what they are saying. He is both the committed skier and in this case he is also the "sampler" And that's it from Nova Scotia on a cloudy Monday afternoon. Mike wink: :P |

It is time to rebuild my deleted (by error) reply. An why now? Because Pavel is starting to give the answer away even more clearly. Yes Ellistine I saw that too!!! The Pavel Index is as he has "suggested" a way to list a bunch of data in a way that is easy to understand. Pavel tests skis - we all know this. His has shouted for us to recognize this in the last clue ... "test reply". He is at his computer puzzelled on how to show us the answer without showing us the answer! He tests skis for all level of skiers based on several criteria and options. He then reports on his findings in a way where the interested skier may receive his suggestions and recommendations. There are so many skis out there that for the first time buyer and even the "seasoned" buyer it can be like buying a house - a "daunting mind numbing" experience. So if we use the Pavel Index we will save money and time and end up with a ski suitable to our ability and needs.... we will be confident and sleep well. Now for that number we must realize that we are all different and must therefore realize that my magic number will differ from Dean's or for Ellistine's of from Agusl's. Our ability is something Pavel doesn't know until he skis with us. His index rates the ski and conditions of application for the percieved ability for a given number. So the magic number is 5 and it's meaning is the Pavel Index which has sub categories for the different level of skier. When we look for skis we will remember 5 as being the PI and when we have this index we will purchase skis confidently. We will get the best deal because the ski will suit us and be safe for our ability. I'm still reaching ... but it has been a long 2 weeks!! More to come .... this is getting like an eBay aution close!! I did show Pavel a set of bindings I bought through eBay and a good price .. and I was proud of this ... hmmmm another hint ??? Mike  |

That tells me another potential magic number Dean!!!!! November also has eight letters and since you boarded twice and he listed November twice then I think something magical and ski related will happen in 2008, and this makes 2008 a magic number. But my problem is I don't know what will happen then other than the beginning of another ski season. (Generally my first day skiing is on New Years Day.) I had 2008 on my potential list and these clues are a bit more than by happen-chance in my grasping state. When you said you boarded only twice, a shiver went down my spine. But you have a plan for November which will keep you going for 2008 ... you are planning for your future needs. What's magical for you is unique just as all our skis are to each of us. D E E E E P !!!! Mike PS: You've played this long so you should put a list together. It's more fun having a bunch of learning skiers to play with. And Ellistine is back in it too :D |

Suffering :?: What Suffering... there is no suffering here :!: Is there :?: I didn't think so ... and that is because we are skiers :!: We take on a challenge with a smile on our faces :!: And if that challenge isn't on a "dangerous" steep slope then where better to have a challenge than with a Pavel Quizz :?: Don't you all agree with me guys? Well maybe Ellistine is wavering a bit ... but just a bit. I had forgotten that I had showed Pavel the self propelled hydraulic boat hoist I had design and built for a local marina. It was a fun project and at times even more frustrating than this quizz may have been to some. But the result of seeing a 40 foot yacht being hoisted from the water and driven to its winter cradle made the effort all worth it. The reward, - the emotional one. Just like when we all learn the final number. As far as the quizz goes, my amo is starting to run "dangerously" low. And with each reply from Pavel I can see the reply I deleted was soooo close. I must step back and "re-assess" the clues once more. No, I din't mean that Rossignol donated the skis but they are like my bouncing pellets; in that they have received some attention due to the quizz. They should thank you Pavel just like the lucky winner will. So do you all think what I'm thinking ??? I thought you may be , beacuse we are learning about Pavel as we go through this exercise. We are "learning" how to identify hints more and more easily. Do any of you see the magic number presented in the last post (aka Hint) from our quizzmaster? One of the magic numbers must be Pavel's telephone number !!! (And I know the number ... fear not Pavel - I will keep it a secret.- It may just be worth a pair of Mutix skis) Mike PS; Pavel, I can imagine you can "see" all the charts I have spread over my desk related to the quizz ... yes I'm "re-calculating" everything! The prize is worth it - physically and emotionally ... and especially financially :!:  PPS: If any of you have the need for a boat hoist design for a marina ... send me a message !!! |

Thanks agusl. I can almost see Pavel typing his hints with a big grin on his face, knowing full well his Mutix skis are safe in his basement ski storage locker. He really is enjoying this. He loves to study people and how they think. And with the snapping fingers demo I first thought the person was learning how to listen, perhaps they are learning as the pointing becomes more definite. They are expecting a sound for sure and expecting they must react. But now I see how his meaning was to show us that the answer is right in front of us and we will jump in shock of how simple it is. Yeah, Pavel is loving this. (Judy and I did the experiment.) Good luck to you too and the others. And Rossignol is happy for this quizz too. Look at the "free" advertising they have received thanks to Pavel's great quizz. I wonder how many of the 1425 views to this thread in the past two weeks have promtpted people to look up the Mutix ski. Many I expect. Mike :-) |

Dean :!: don't leave -- the game isn't over yet :!: I'm just getting warmed up and shifting into a higher gear. When you start talking to yourself it is a sign there is a Pavel quizz underway and when the quizz starts to get very d e e p some people do different things. I, myself, start counting letters and begin to try harder to think more like our quizzmaster. If a fly lands in front of me I feel there is a reason morre than he was just tired. He landed there for a specific reason. Every letter Pavel typed comes under the microscope. Remember a while ago he had a clue with what I'm taking to be a typo? Something like "correct" and it appeared as "correc6t" Was the "6" a clue or was it a typo. I make enough typos so I should recognize them!! Was 6 a magic number. I have a few more thoughts yet and then there is the "good" one I deleted in error which I'm trying to re-construct. Agusl's was along the same line.. And I'll be very suprised if your 4 to 9 are not amoung the magic numbers, Dean. I plan to stick with 4 as one of them right now. Have you noticed that even on a Sunday the viewing count increases about by 50 so far today. This qiuzz is receiving close to 100 views per day and only about 30 of them are from me  The answers are extremely simple and like the "internet demo" with the snapping fingers, they are right in front of our noses and we will jump when we see them. If you want to hide something - put it in plain sight :!: Right Pavel :?: This is so exciting, frustrating and fun - all at once. What a challenge! (too many letters.) More a bit later, Mike :P |
