Magic Numbers all skiers should know!

Now I live in Nova Scotia, Canada not in Seattle, Washington but that movie that was called "Sleepless in Seattle" could very easily be renamed "Sleepless in Nova Scotia" when a Pavel Quiz is made known !!! I had forgotten about the sleepless nights and had just focused on the continuation of the ski season. But the plus side to the sleepless nights is that following an evening of complete puzzlement in search for the answer with fewest blasts from my shot gun (have you priced amo lately?) is that the lighter state of sleep permits you to have many dreams of the perfect run.

I know Pavel dreams of trips down Rogue Angle in Sunday River and at Martock in NS I dream of trips down a trail they call Glades. I almost digressed on: how good one particular trip was this past winter :-) !!!

Be assured if Pavel offers a great prize, such as these Rossignol skis, and you are the first to answer correctly - then they are as good as yours!!!

I would like to edit my #4 number choice to include with the WOW factor make up, the number which relates the cost of a season pass to your favorite hill. The pass is a requirement for a "well planned season - our future needs". And all passes can save you a great bundle of money!! The pass for Martock will pay for itself in 3 days at the hill. You could enjoy the new ski purchase for almost for free for the entire winter. A great saving indeed.

Oh what a quizz !!! Oh what fun!!!

If you look at www.martock.com you will find some clips of the trails in a virtual mode. Now remember this is a small hill in some regards but it is a really nice place to spend some quality ski time - even in the summer months!!

New Brunswick and the Cape Breton area of Nova Scotia had some too ...shovelable but not skiable

The week before the temperature was 28C and summer like!

May 13 & 14 of 2006 and 2007 were very much alike then on the 15th of 2006 the rains settled in for 6 weeks. It looks like this year will be a carbon copy!

Remember Point Pleasant Park, Pavel ?

There is a no better quiz than a Pavel quiz !!!!! They get you thinking and keep the ski season going all year !!! And when all others have moved onto their golf season we are still on the slopes - even if only in mind !!!

I have found that I tend to use the shot gun approach to Pavel's quizzes and sometimes I get closer to the answer and at others I spiral really far away.

So Pavel, here is my first blast from the shot gun!

The important numbers ...

1, ski length
2, ski side cut profile,
3, the ski's stiffness flex index
4, the purchase's anticipated enjoyment index (1 = so so, and 10 = WOW!)
5, the edge bevel angle giving that sure footed solid handling.

But there are other numbers too that are important.

1, time to get to the ski hill in minutes from home
2, the time the first chair leaves the bottom
3, lunch time as the wife may like to dine and get warmed up
4, the time to set the alarm clock for an early morning departure - synchronized to items 1 & 2 above.
5, the time the ski hill closes for the day.

Oh, how I've missed "The Springtime Pavel Quiz" !!!

I had an email from Pavel suggesting I look at this site and this thread. I'm glad he sent me the message. As I have looked around this great site I see Pavel is fairly well known to you. Therefore you know him to be as kind as he is knowledgable. The kind words he had to say of me are exaggerated - but appreciated.

I will assemble some information on the ski hills in Nova Scotia - yes, all three of them - in the near future. Basicly the season runs from early January to mid March. And this has been with man made snow for the past few years. The skiing can be lots of fun but don't expect powder - rather expect well groomed surfaces with a few icy patches - just to keep you humble! More soon,

Mike
