Can certainly recommend Schladming if you can get there. Have just been skiing with a couple who were singing the praises of Zauchensee.

Back home now and feeling exhausted but glad to be here with all the travel problems.
Jet2 Flight Gatwick to Friedrichshafen was superb - our smoothest ever check-in and departure on time. Comfortable seats and plenty of legroom which pleased my husband - so very impressed all round. First three days skiing were in great visibility but very cold temperatures. Lots of snowmaking going on which resulted in some runs having mounds of snow on them making things interesting! Clearly the emphasis was on preparation for the Christmas skiers. Last three days had sporadic snow flurries and intermittent visibility plus snow cannons going at full tilt. The Madloch link on the White Ring was closed for the first three days but then opened, but the red ski route down to Zug was scratchy. Red 10 from Muggengrat down to Zurs was in superb condition however. Blue 8 from St Anton down to St Christoph was in great condition too followed by a coffee on the sun terrace of the Hospiz! Generally we found the best value coffee/lunch stop was Seekopf, but across the ski area we were paying from 2.50 to 4.50 for coffee and 4 to 8 eu for various soup options. Lack of sleep now catching up I'm afraid (we were buying some milk in the Ipswich Tesco at about 1.30 this morning so we could have a cup of tea!) but at least we made it home. Happy Christmas everyone! |

All packed and ready to go to Sussex this morning, carol concert tonight and then off to Gatwick tomorrow morning - anyone else on the Jet2 flight to Friedrichshafen on Sunday at 1415? Think I have packed everything - and the kitchen sink is in the boot bag. Head all over the place as one of the children's world has just fallen apart and feeling guilty about not being here for them. Still, skiing is more important isn't it?
Lech webcams are looking nice and white. Getting excited now and just want to be there. Bye bye! |

Serre Chevalier would be worth looking at. Prato Nevoso is a lovely friendly place but too small an area for what you want I think.

Hello Fisherman - good choice of resort I would say as Madonna/Folgarida/Marilleva seems to have something for everyone. Check the dates - we went there end of Feb/early March a few years ago and they have a Hapsburg festival which was good fun with skiers in old fashioned dress and a spectacular firework display. So you may either wish to avoid these dates or make sure you are there.
There is definitely a beginner area at Campo Carlo Magna - I think someone asked about this recently. Many of the reds are quite wide and I seem to remember a couple of wide blacks, one of which is called Amazon or Amazonia and is through the trees. The scenery of the Dolomites is awesome. |

Well done Nelly - I'm a lot older than you and only been skiing for about 15 years, but would like to still be skiing in my 60's and then we'll see about the 70's )
Admin - I presume you intend to be alive and skiing on your 100 birthday - or is there going to be a coffin strapped to a plank/ski/snowboard hurtling down a slope somewhere ) |

I think you'll find we have all been doing the same thing ) 12 days until we are off to Lech and they now have lots of white stuff too :D |
