Security of boot bags

Tony_H wrote:I don't see why anyone would need to use a boot bag. My boots go in he main case in the hold, or alternatively like Dave mac says use a rucksack and carry them on. It's just another bag to lose, and I've seen too many boot bags come out on the carousel with broken bits falling out of them.

Point 1: They are quite heavy, so would push my case over the 20kg limit, but then, having them separate would still count towards my weight allowance - wouldn't it? It means having to carry less clothing etc in the case though. In the previous years, when I have not carried boots, my case weighed about 17-18kg. I think my boots will be about 6-7kg. My OH carried her boots last year - one in each of our cases, and I think the combined total weights was about 35kgs.

Point 2: The boots are big, so I don't think I can get them in a bag which will get within the size restrictions for cabin luggage, but I shall have to check that. In addition, am I wrong in thinking that they've intrioduced a weight limit for cabin luggage too?

I have acquired a boot bag, second-hand which does not seem to be able to be locked.

Now, I assume people generally put their boots in their bag, in the hold. What arrangements do folk make to ensure no-one dips into the bag and helps themselves?

Do I need to be concerned, or is it generally safe?

Yes, I've got it. I use it to measure my running routes here at home as well.

Something tells me that you work in a travel agency? Many people booking this year?

You only mention 2 resorts in France, I guess that your travel agents specialise in Austria rather than France.
2 lift stations in the town at Mayorhofen does not sound like Austrian efficiency to me? Surely it would be more efficient to have more than 2 lifts in this large town? Wouldn't you say? But perhaps after a stuffy bus ride you are all rather used to being crammed in one cable car.

Why did you go to Serre Chevalier? Did you think it was in Austria, or was it a 'staff special offer'?

Anyway, where you off to this year?
I am still liking the sound of France, or maybe even The States where the serious skiiers are.

You won't be at either of those as they won't be on special offer.

My word you don't take long to find your feet in a new place!

By all means go to Austria. It's the only country I have experience of skiing in, and may be open to calls of 'biased', but I have to say that I have never been let down by either the quality of the food, or the accommodation. We tend to look for very basic accommodation and self-catering (the criteria being - as long as it's clean and warm, it's good; we only sleep and breakfast there anyway), but as far as food is concerned we are not so easy going. You will find what suits you in Austria, I'm sure.
