I suspect that what he was trying to do was defining what 'off-piste' really means, rather than being distasteful. There are no grades of 'off-piste', and particularly if any of us have to make an insurance claim. |

I missed the bit about Tony H packing 3 each of salos and jackets. I only pack the one salos and wear the one jacket.

Thats pretty much around 18-20kg.
Then, pack all your ski clothing (sallos and jackets, 3 of each usually) around your skis in a ski bag, So you're not packing lighter than me at all then, really. I don't have skis, and all my stuff comes in around the 18kg mark, ...............until these boots came along! I pack virtually exactly the same amount of clothing as you |

Well, Tony H, here's the bit I don't get. How can you get to a significantly lower weight than I, because I certainly am not extravagant when I pack? I will not however, wear the same clothes all week, and I don't want to wash clothes on holiday, especially if there's every chance they might not dry properly. I allow about two or three evenings for casual wear, and the rest - I've explained.

I have never ventured into Merino wool clothing - it's a childhood hangover. When I was in primary school my mother made me wear woollen vests in winter, and (I don't know whether I have extra sensitive skin or something,) but they made me itch so much, it was torture to wear them. The thought of wearing wool again (well, next to the skin) brings me out in a hot flush, and although I'm led to believe that Merino is quite soft, because of the price of the clothing, I have never ventured to find out for myself, just in case it doesn't work out. |

That is an interesting strategy Dave Mac. I'm sure I could (being hard on myself) discard some of the items that I have been carrying in order to reduce the weight, although I am not extravagant in what I carry anyway, for instance, base layers etc have to do for 2 days use.
I can see myself investing in a set of scales this year, which I can use to check as I go along, whilst packing . |

I've got asn Insignia Elite Sport Tourer. Get about 35mpg, which I am not overly impressed with, compared to my previous Passat. The engine is lively though, but I am also disappointed by the number of times I have had to take it back for various things that have gone wrong. It's got all the gizmos you can think of, but what for I don't know - it only needs to get me from A to B at the end of the day.
