Calf pain - any advice?

Darko wrote:see if there is something inside the boot.it sounds strange but my ski pants have a button on the part that goes into the boot(at least i put it inside the boot) so i experienced extreme pain one day. the strange part is that i didn't feel the button at all because the pain was all over the calf.also see if your socks are folded at the top and if they go up your leg more than your boot does.and you have to push your legs forward

If this is the liner you mention - this should not go inside the boot. The button is to allow room for it to be manoeuvred over the boot and clips. Keeping this outside will keep the snow out.
You really only want a wrinkle free sock in the boot.

Remember that you should have hospital and other medical cover under European E111 card. However, this will not cover you for on piste injuries, but, depending on where you are staying opt for the local ski insurance at the resort when purchasing your ski lift. This insurance will cover you for anything on piste including helicopter removal and onward journey to medic centre or hospital whatever is required. This type of cover in France and Italy is usually 1.50euro per day. Hope this may help. Colpam

The EHIC will cover you for all A&E treatment skiing related as well, but remember depending on which country you're in you may still have to pay some costs for this, the rest is as Colpam states.

The EHIC may cover hospital treatment.
But most medical centres in sci resorts are private and the health card is of little use.
Best to get high quality travel insurance. Cheap is very often a false economy in this area. But on what is in the small print (yes, there is lots to read and it will take a while), not on anything else.
A skiing holiday is one of the most accident prone types of popular holiday and there is a very real chance you may have to make a claim at some point.

I ski in a party of around 15. In six trips, two people have had to be carried off the mountain and made claims - one beginner and one expert.

For Tspill, sounds like boots are too big and need swapping

i think the boots fit me well. What I was trying to say is that the boots them selves seem to flex a lot. There is a slider on the side that apparently allows the flex to be adjusted, but even on the tightest setting, they still flex a lot. They also have a knob that releases a lock to allow easier walking.
I just wonder with these adjustments - is the stiffness of the boot compromised.

This hallened to me last year in VDI (skis rather than board).

My travel insurance company didnt want to know as I had left the skis unaccompanied. I asked them what I should have done at a restaurant - they said that was my problem, not theirs.
We had taken ski insurance with the rental shop so I only has 150 euro excess to pay.

This year I got a ski lock from amazon. Something like

I got a new Trespass coat at £70. It seems great. warm, waterproof, breathable and loads of pockets.
Used it last week and it performed well.

Many shopping centres, high streets and outlets have Trespass shops.

Great question as I am in the same position. Have skied in boots seven times since i began skiing. Got the boots secondhand (only one use). The guy I got them from got the sizing wrong - but they fitted me perfectly.
The boots have a fair amount of movement and was wondering if I need something stiffer.
Sestriere Olympic Piste vs VDI Face

Well, just back from Sestriere and had a great time. five out of six days were wall to wall blue sky and sunshine.

Even though they hadn't had snow for a while, the piste conditions are as good as I have seen in any resort ever.

All in all, a fantastic resort and the Milky Way is super. I used to be a huge fan of the Espace Killy area, but MW is now up there.

On the question I originally asked on piste grading - I think it is fair to say that as I suspected, the runs in France (in particular EK) are graded completely differently in the MW. I would say that there is generally a FULL grade difference - A red in MW would be a blue in France. Most blues in EK would be similar to most reds in MW. There are very few real blacks in the MW - mostly these would be red elsewhere I have skied.
The olympic runs in MW are nothing like the Face in EK - MUCH easier (and therefore nicer for the intermediate).
This all suits me perfectly.

Had ski hosting most days last week in Sestriere from Crystal. it was great.

Maybe avoid France and head to Italy.
