Hi All,
As for the weather and in particular the snow it's what dictates everything, for me the more the merrier , it's the same when I'm walking I find it more interesting walking in bad weather than good, although skimming down a slope on a glorious sunny day with azure blue skies and temps of minus 5oC or below.......heaven  I just hope this is what the rest of the season has in store and keeps it up  jon. |

For my tuppence worth, from what I gather the lift companies and resorts will keep at least one lift, drag, chair etc open in all but the most extreme and dangerous weather so as to avoid paying out any insurance claims to people whom put claims in for not being able to ski due to all the lifts being closed..... .....as long as one form of uphill transportation is kept open this can invalidate a persons claim, and save the resort lift companies a fortune in claims payouts. jon. |

Hi Darcicles,
I agree snow chains brought in or near resorts do seem to be a little on the cheap side , whether this is a manufactured thing so over the course of a season they sell more as they are only expected to last a week at best?.... I brought some RUD snowchains which are of solid sturdy quality ( coast £48 on offer ) and have never let me down , on the snow tyre issue I think you will see the benefits over a normal tyre anyday, although a good set of chains will still be needed and required for the real heavy going, also when the Police say you need to put them on at times. From the tyres I have looked at Continental Conti-Winter-Contacts seem the best about.... http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/uk/en/continental/automobile/themes/car-tyres/winter-tyres/winter-car-tyres.html All the best jon. |

I agree, the river that runs through Val is potentially hazardous with zero vision and a gut full of booze, along with hypothermia etc. Good call by the local Gendarmerie |
