Thats the plan Adele. Tempted? A little bird tells me that the prices mentioned might be negotiable. Wasn't there a plan for J2Skiers to buy some real estate? I recall that Admin Dave couldn't manage his 10p. |

Welcome to J2Ski Ntip,
If you go on to the valley website: http://www.wildschoenau.com/ Click on the UK flag to get English Then you can do a number of things. 1. If your dates are more than say 3 weeks away, go through "contact", and ask the tourist office to send you an accomodation brochure, English version. This will give you all the valley accomodation, including location. 2. You can also just ask them for Auffach hotels. 3. There is an accomodation search on the site. |

Hi ParaSC,
Looked for you, mainly by accosting folk and asking them if they were "ski crazy". Yup, and you can imagine the kind of responses. On New Years Eve, We too went to O'Malleys, and then on to the party at the Bichelwirt. So we nearly met up! The non-smiling lady had been working 18 hours a day for 10 days. She will not get a day off until April. But she is a wonderful lady, and a very fast skier. The fireworks were spectacular, as were thase, the following night in Oberau. Glad that you enjoyed Austria. Hasten ye back! |

I apologise for my introductory remark Ross. Having re-read your first note, I missed the part of the point you were making.
On the technicality, I should have also included in the assumption that the stiff and soft ski should have the same edge radius. Then with all other things being equal, the soft ski will adopt a different arc. Where I was trying to go was that in the discussion, only the ski radius was considered, when considering the behaviour of older straighter large arc skis. Whereas, in my early days, ski stiffness and length were a couple of the very few variables. No guy ever skied on less than 205s. The best off piste Austrians all skied soft easyflex skis. |

Thats an interesting view of kinetics Ross. Assume the major dynamic force on the ski is mass x velocity squared. Assume the same skier at the same speed, angulation, weight, slope. Hence, the force presented to the ski is the same, on both the stiff and soft ski. So get a stiff ski, and a soft ski, (lateral stiffness, ie along the length) Torsional stiffness and legth is equal on both skis. Support each ski at the ends, ski upside down, and position a 40 kg load on the waist. I would bet a wienerschnitzel AND a Zipfer bier, the softer ski has a greater deflection, and therefore a shorter arc radius. Of course this is using a simple support process, whereas the ski would on snow would be subjected to a UDL. It is possible to carry out a UDL test, using a uniform soft thick support material to support the ski, and loading with the 40km load. The result would show a lesser deflection in both cases (than a simple support), but the proportionate difference would be the same. Oh, UDL means uniformly distributed load, ie resistance loaded along the full length of the ski. I respectfully submit the above, and restrain from asking for £5. |

Karen,
I just looked at Blachfelders price list which gives a rental cost for a "Rodel", ie a toboggan, as 3.5Eu. I presume that is per day. Margreiter may be cheaper. Some hotels, like the Harfenwirt keep some individual plastic trays hanging outside for their guest's use. You could email your hotel, and see if they have anything. I wouldn't take sledges. |

AJ, I did a DIY to Whistler. Good airfares with BA. Booked a house on the net for 6, Two couples and two singles. There are regular buses leave Vancouver airport for Whistler. We took a luxory minibus and driver for not much more than the bus, and took the return by bus.
Lift passes are expensive. Eating out seemed to be similar to UK. Big issue with Whistler is the low cloud/mist, giving poor viz. This happens regularly, but you won't read that in the brochures! Good ski bus system. Does that mean you won't ne going to N in 2010? |

You are correct Trencher, I joined in the latter end of the thread. As for age, there are advantages. I have a season pass for 215 Euros.... and it seems that I get to kiss the J2ski ladies..... in a rather fatherly way, of course. :D |
