i am looking to see how much I can buy now (to try and space it out so I dont have to spend a fortune in January after christmas) and I am just wondering.
Will one pair of sallopettes and one ski jacket do for us each?. I just cant remember for the life of me what I used to take away. In February just how many layers will I need for the kids? will they need long johns, then maybe tracksuit bottoms then their sallopettes do? or will that be too much? thanks in advance. more crazy questions to follow karen |

was John Cleese Scottish like? I must admit Pavel, call me ignorant, but when I clicked on the first video link I expected to be watching skiing, not a lecture, or at least a lecture on skiing........perhaps I have missed something? Didnt get what that was all about. |

Tony I came accross a blog and have copied and ppasted it here:
Between December and April go skiing in on of the many ski areas. There are too many south of Munich to give detailed descriptions here. If you want to spent 39 Euro for a day ticket the “Zugspitze” ski area is definitely worth a visit skiing and snowboarding on the glaciers below the nearly 3000m peak of Gernaby’s highest mountain. The gondola up to the summit starts close to the town of Garmisch Partenkirchen (take highway 95 from Munich to Garmisch) and in Garmisch follow the signs towards the “Zugspitzbahn” and “Gondel”. After skiing you can enjoy the public swimming hall of Garmisch, which is well marked. This swimming place features normal pools, some hot pools and sauna. The best way to relax after a day of skiing. Karen again: it means nothing to me but thought it might be worth a look or you might have heard of it. k |

I have been to Soll twice years (about 20) ago. It was great. I loved the fact that you never had to ski the same run twice if you didnt want to and I am really considering it for my next holiday after I return from Niederau, but who knows I might never want to change.
One of the reasons I like Soll was the fact that you had such a vast area to ski and I remember one trip we timed the lifts wrong and ended up having to hike across and up the piste slopes (I really thought i was going to die but thats another story) because they used to (dont know if they still do) turn them off at a certain time so if you have skied into a valley you could end up walking back up lol Anyway I digress. I am off to Niederau with the family this time and I am really looking forward to getting myself back into the saddle but not sure how I will feel after a few days of getting used to skiing again, will I be hankering for a new run. I literally have no idea. Good luck though I would be interested to see if there is another resort that is similar to Soll where you can ski that type of area etc. karen |

i have just done a quick check on directski and flying from gatwick to salzburg on 10th Jan staying in a pension in a room for 2 (obvisouly you would need 2 rooms) for one week in Soll would be £300 each, then you would have your ski hire, ski pass, any tuition to add on top.
anyway without knowing what your budget, where you want to fly from, or go to etc, this is just a very rough estimate to give you a different option |

camping in england on a cold summer night can sometimes be barasic even with heating. Are you sure you will be able to take the cold? camping in the harsh winter, in snow. You are very brave (ok I know I am a big girls blouse,) but it is going to be bitterly cold. Also do you really think after one week on a school ski trip that you will be able to teach someone else to ski? I was quite surprised how little the ski school was. i think it only worked out at 138 euros for 6 days tuition.
The only place I have been was Soll in Austria but that was many many moons ago, but it had great varied nightlife then and the ski area was varied and had something for everyone. Like has already been said it might work out cheaper and more comfortable to get a self catering chalet between you. If you time it right you could get a good deal with easyjet. |
