Is anybody else this excited so far before their holidays, or is it just me???

No, you're definately not the only one! I've got 14 weeks and 2 days to go though (not that I'm counting...)

I'm sure this guy could point you in the right direction, (for the rockets at least).... :D

I seem to remember Top Gear doing a 'Winter Olympics' a few years ago where they put a Mini on skis (or similar), attached a rocket and sent it off a ski jump (don’t know if that counts or not??)

The reason j2ski is not the #1 ski website (when it should be really) is because it is cliquey. There are no show offs on 'snowheads' but then again there isn't the knowledge on snowheads that there is on so j2ski. J2ski has created a niche in that regard.

j2ski has found good skiers. I ski reds and I'm scared of blacks. I don't feel good enough for this forum and that is how this forum makes people feel.

I won't repeat myself but there are people on this forum who I really admire.

I'm not too sure I'll post again.

I’m a relative newbie to both this site and skiing in general and I have to say that I’ve found the site both welcoming and informative. I’ve learnt so much over the past few months that I otherwise wouldn’t have even thought about.
Also, it never ceases to make me smile at the banter between regulars who ‘know’ each other. How a single thread can progress from skiing, to penguins (both chocolate and fluffy), football, wasps and guide dogs is bemusing but as someone else said, exactly the sort of thing you wound expect going into your local pub. Yes, you may get a few sarcastic responses, but you’d get those between friends too, and I’m sure in almost all cases the answers are meant in fun. It’s all too easy to write something to someone you don’t know, which when read back doesn’t say quite what you thought it did.

Getting back to the not feeling good enough, you are way better than me for starters!! :D As with anything, there will always be experts (both real and those who just think they are ) but those are the people (in most cases…) we can learn from. It doesn’t matter if your goal is to win the World Cup, get down run X marked with a skull and crossbones for the first time (in one piece) or simply learn to turn properly there is always something new to learn. I remember a previous post (which I never got around to replying to) in which you said you were trying ‘match your husband’ (or something like that) when skiing, but as of yet hadn’t quite managed. I’m beginning to find more and more that it’s not always such a good idea to compare yourself to others, as there will always be someone better. I get much more satisfaction from setting my own goals and reaching them.

Anyway, IMO this site brings together like minded people (of all abilities) with a passion for skiing, and provides an ‘escape’ when partners/friends start rolling their eyes when you mention the ‘s word…’ I log in during my lunch break, knowing that it’ll make me smile and I’ll learn something new in the process.

So, please don’t give up on the site – anyone who posts, regardless of experience and ability has something to offer…

I recently bought my first pair of boots from Sayers, which in Yarm (on the High Street) – not sure how convenient this will be for you? I’m a terrible person to offer advice (as my skiing knowledge is limited to one week!) however Dave who owns the place spent ages with me (and my husband) both fitting our boots and explaining everything about them (flex angles etc.) He also did the same thing with my skis, making sure that what I bought was going to be suitable for me now and well into the future. I can honestly say I was very impressed, and the prices were competitive too.
Hope this is some help to you :D

holiday prices warning

I’d definitely agree with that – if you see the holiday you want and it’s a good price, book it! Deciding to wait and book it in the morning cost us an extra £400. :(

Also, not sure if I read this correctly or not (back of brochure small print), but it seems that with some companies they can increase prices at a later date, even if you have paid a deposit (or even the full cost of the holiday) at a lower price??
Not sure how they can get away with this if it’s true, as surely once you’ve paid for something in full, you don’t expect to be asked for more money at a later date…?
On the other hand, this could just be me completely misinterpreting what I’ve read. :?:
