Me too! Let's hope Channel 4 see sense and bring it back soon. This Sunday it was beach volleyball which just doesn't have the same appeal (well, not to me anyway...)

New skis and boots (early Christmas prezzie to myself – in July!!), two weeks in Sauze D’Oulx to test them out and a new camcorder to record all my subsequent wipe-outs

Not even and apple, an orange and a sixpence? I have it on good authority from my parents that that’s all Santa used to bring them…

Hope everything works out for you soon.
Double ski bag with wheels...?

Decided to go with the Lokker bag in the end, which seems pretty good (though haven’t travelled with it yet…) For some reason, the blue version was £20 cheaper than the red (£40 instead of £60), so went with this.

Even if it breaks after a couple of trips, at that price it’s easily replacable. )
I bought a Dare 2 Be jacket a few weeks ago in the Middlesbrough store (not great on the organisation front) for £39.99 (RRP £120).
It’s a bit bright, but surprisingly looks better on than on the hanger, and the specs seemed pretty good (waterproof and breathable to 10,000mm)

My Columbia jacket (also from TK Maxx last year) has been relegated to the stables as the zip is dodgy, so it was this or head to a ski shop (which I was trying to avoid)…
The Cross salopettes I bought last year will hopefully do me for a few more years yet

The Teesside Park store had a lot of choice when I was last in, but mostly Tresspass, none of which I particularly liked.

Also ordered a few pairs of socks and a set of Helly Hansen merino wool thermals on line so with the new jacket, hopefully won’t freeze too much this year )

Not ideal, but if there's snow it's a lot closer than Sauze and January is along time away... Desperate times... )
La Joeu du loup

Hi Hattie,

We looked at La Joue du Loup (and other smaller resorts in that general area) for January 2009, however ruled it out as we wanted to go for a fortnight and weren’t sure if there would be enough skiing for that length of time.

However, the reviews that I managed to find on the area (La Joue du Loup and SuperDévoluy) were pretty positive and the skiing seemed ideal for what we wanted (lots of blues and reds.)

I’ll be very interested to hear what you think when you get back, as it may be a contender for a week in future years.

Where are you off to for your other two trips? )

Budget trip for young couple

Hi Sami,

For our first ski trip we took roughly what everyone has said above, however I would suggest 3 pairs of socks rather than 2 (one to wear, one clean for the next day and one drying.) We only took two each and with a lack of radiator space to dry things on (including thermals) we often had to resort to hairdryers in a morning to get them completely dry )

Booking a ‘learn to ski package’ as GeordieSki has suggested will save you money (around £100 if I remember correctly), as will raiding the shelves at TK Maxx. We found that we did need the thermals (Sauze D’Oulx, 2nd week of January) however as everyone has said it will depend on when and where you are going. They didn’t seem to be very expensive and we managed with one set each (I think we paid about £20 for a top/bottoms set.)

Anyway, hope you have a fantastic time :D
