Just curious to see what people’s views on taking lessons are?
I really enjoy taking lessons in everything I do, as I want to improve to be the best that I can be. I’ll go away and read the books (working through ‘The All Mountain Skier’ at the moment – excellent book!) or ask for advice, try to put things into practice and work at it ‘till I get it right (I’m a scientist so maybe that’s got something to do with having this mentality…?) Others (like my OH), seem to prefer to just get on with things and learn as they go without too much outside help. They seem happy to cruise along at a certain level and not go beyond that, as long as they are having fun. My family tell me I’m too competitive and just to go and enjoy it, but I really do get a buzz from those eureka moments when things finally click. Just wondered if there others out there who feel the same way as I do, or if I’m in the minority? Also, for those of you that have been taught by several different people, do you think it’s best to stick with one instructor, if possible, or try several different ones? I’ve e-mailed the ski school where we are having lessons and asked if we can have the same person as last year, however as we are in group lessons, not sure if they will be happy to do this or not? Thanks  Lynn |

Hi Dshields, We were in Sauze in January and are going back on the 4th Jan 2009 - we loved the place and can thoroughly recommend it. :D Not sure about the hotel - I had a look on www.sauzeonline.com and although it's on their list of accommodation, the hotel website didn't seem to be working. Maybe try asking the question on there and someone may be able to help?? I would hope that snow shouldn't be a problem as they seem to look after their pistes between snow falls as best as they can. It seems that at times the snow has been somewhat lacking (as Tony seems to have found out!) although the conditions when we were there were amazing (and look even better at the moment!) :D Hope this is some help Lynn |

Maybe it’s a good thing this won’t work on my office computer (although I may have to have a look when I get home, just out of curiosity...) )

We looked at booking things ourselves for our next trip and although we found some excellent accommodation where we could pay per chalet/apartment (rather than per person and suffer the room supplements) by the time you’d added on the flights (with the usual supplements for skis, luggage, wings on the plane  etc.) and car hire/transfers it worked out about the same or in many cases more expensive than a package.
Also, the only flights we could find landed ~5pm and having never driven in snowy/icy Alpine conditions, we didn’t fancy the thought of a trek up a mountain in the pitch black. However, if there are a bigger group of you (say 4+) the accommodation and car hire costs would be reduced dramatically per person so you may find you can save money. As others have said, there’s also the plus that with a car you can stock up at a supermarket en route, rather than buying in resort. Good luck, whichever route you choose to go. :D |

No partridges sadly, called Alan or otherwise , but I do have a delicious, plump pigeon in the freezer if that counts? Off topic again (sorry!) |
