Hi Jan

Like geordiski says it was a bit different last year. there has been talke for a long time about the kids holidays. there has even been mention in our area of splitting the school holidays so that they dont get any longer than 2 weeks off at a time. so May week would be 2 weeks, october would be 2 weeks, summer holidays would be 2 weeks, not sure how they would do the rest. certainly to my knowledge there are no plans to change, I think it is more rumour and wishful thinking by most people who are jealous of teachers holidays. I know next year that in April they are off from 3rd to 20th and in 2010 they are off from 1st to 19th April. You can get this kind of information from here

hope that helps

just so I can make sure that I book with the right ski school. When you say book with the reds......as opposed to what other ski school?

is this the one I should be booking with?

thanks Dave. I wasnt thinking of buying lunch at the Alpenhof as we are self catering I was thinking more along the lines of making them a sandwich (with the credit crunch and all! lol) I might splash out and take them to lunch one day.

I suppose I am a bit of a control freak. I am nervous about just going off and enjoying myself while the kids are somewhere on a mountain slope. Hubby is in the beginner classes too (although I dont suppose I will feel the need to check on him, after all he is a big boy lol) I think it must be a woman thing, or maybe its just a "me" thing! I think I am a bit odd lol. I am sure I will feel different when I get there but it is hard to think about at the minute without having the benifit of knowing the area like the back of your hand like you do. I would be discreet about spying on them lol.

Oops really sorry about that Jan and thank you so so much for posting the pic with the Alpehof (by the way Dave, I asked to book the Auhof before the Alpenhof but unfortunately was fully booked boo hoo.)

Thanks for all the info though, its been a great help. I take it the beginners slope is for all beginners or do some companies have different slopes? I am just thinking I could ski to the bottom of the lift every so often to check on the kids (lol) take a few aerial pics of them on the way back up? and from the looks of it we look close enough to nip back to the Alpenhof for lunch? or am I being a bit ambitious?

Hey Dave, great picture. Do you think you would be able to point out the Alpenhof on that picture?
We are going there 14-21 Feb.

Hi there

I am sure a little while back there was another couple of nutters, ahem I mean travellers lol that were planning the same thing in a van.

have a search through the threads from the beginning of this year
I went at the weekend and got the kids a ski jacket each. both dare2be one was £25 and the other was £30.

For you geordies I got them at the Gateshead retail store on the Team Vally. didnt check the town.

They seemed to have a few bits and pieces for adults though. If only I could lose a few pounds to actually be able to fit into the skiwear. at this rate I am going to have to sew a few black bin liners together and pinch some of the stuffing from an old duvet to insulate.

Also had to walk out the shop with the jackets under my arm because they make you pay for carrier bags, and I just refuse!!

talking about socks...............

that reminds me. I am sure I read on one of the forum messages about bamboo socks. I paid £5 for a pair to try them out as they are supposed to stop your feet sweating and smelling. Well I just thought I would tell you that they may work for some people but they definitly didnt work for my hubby. He didnt notice any difference.

It was worth a try anyway but I thought I would let you know my findings.
