Nightmare scenario - with no easy solution.
As tourist we may be happy to see the value of the Euro drop but our govenment is less keen as it makes our exports more expensive & I doubt we will be the winners! It would be nice to have a stronger Pound as I'm a tourist not an exporter! |

Take a card.
However the mountain restaurants on the Swiss side accept payment in both Euro's & Francs. I doubt there will be any change to that policy in the immediate future as the big economies of the Euro won't let it be vastly devalued. |

It won't die in the immediate future - effectively bankrupt countries like Greece can't leave because they have nothing to legitimately convert into a new currency so can't leave until and unless they have turned their finances around which will take a long time.
In the short term it might make skiing in Italy more expensive as they try to grab as much tourist cash as they can to balance the books. Look at French prices - otherwise called legal robbery. Funny how the locals seem to use vouchers in the resort cafes. |

At times you do theses things for a quiet life and make a rod for your own back! |

I've had to defer doing the bad thing - paying for 2 daughters and their boyfriends means it's Sauze rather than Whistler.
I'll have to dream for another 2 years until the youngest is at Uni & and I won't have Easter off that year so won't feel obliged to take daughter's and others! |

In an ideal world and if you can afford it get your boots from a show with an experienced fitter.
If not there is an alterative to hiring boots - Ebay - you can often pick up a pair of boots that fit as well as rental boots for less than the cost of rental. If they don't fit - sell them on & usually all you are down is the cost of the listing. Bought half a dozen pairs on behalf of family/friends and all but has been in better nick and fitted as well as hire boots. As my teenage daughters grew out of them they went back on ebay |

The surface is more like a carpet these days & not the old honeycomb stuff that grabs your thumbs.
Had to say the moment I got onto real snow I've never been struck with the desire to return to the carpet. Might well venture up to Swad again this winter as my youngest's boyfriend is coming along with us & it would be nice to see how safe he is on planks as he'll only be on the snow for his second week & I'm not sure what experience he got on his week's school trip. Whilst he claims to be a rugby player he eats his steak well done so we'd best not go for trial by ordeal! Andy |

Was there really that much snow in March/April of 2011 - as I recall the higer pistes had stones poking through & the lower ones puddles and grass. Or was the snow in a deep freeze?
