This is probably a stupid question, however.....

We are heading to Morzine in March and wondered if the mountain restaurants on the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil accept Euros (if they still exist by then...) or whether we need a few Swiss Francs?

Thanks

It is a good point Lynn something I have not given any thought to considering I'm off to Chatel in January ... my thoughts are that they will except Euro but I would expect a not very beneficial rate
but then again the euro being in the state that it is they mght not accept it.
So what will I do I can't be bothered to have Swiss francs laying around at home so if I decide to lunch on the Swiss side I will use my credit card.

Ian is right - euros will be accepted, but the exchange rate will be terrible and you will get (little!) change in Swiss Francs. Credit card is your best bet, and always choose pay in the local currency - your bank will give you a better exchange rate than the acquirer.

Euros are accepted in cases like this. After having spoken to a Euro economic expert today he said that it is extremely unlikely that the Euro will collapse purely off the back of the export abilities in Germany.

Buying Euro now or in a few weeks will make very little difference

Take a card.
However the mountain restaurants on the Swiss side accept payment in both Euro's & Francs.

I doubt there will be any change to that policy in the immediate future as the big economies of the Euro won't let it be vastly devalued.

em - pay in Euro's if you really want, but you will lose 20% as they all exchange at 1-1, so you will pay extortionate prices if you pay in euro's. I'd say pick up some CHF's just to have as emergency money in case of a restaurant not taking ccards.
