I have never skied there but get the impression that the skiing is fairly limited. I gather it is very pretty though. Gosau usually gets a mention as a pretty village ache is also Obertraun (not to be confused with Obertauern)

the castle you would pass is the Hohenwerfen. It might also have been in a Bond movie but it is most famous for being the setting for "Where Eagles Dare" starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood. We visited last summer and the views are fantastic! Hope you enjoy Schladming - it's a great resort and with all the World Cup money pouring in, the facilities are amazing.

We are off to Filzmoos for half term. It is a very pretty, compact village with lots of Austrian Gemütlichkeit. The skiing is perfect for families but if you want more challenging skiing, you may want to take advantage of the huge Ski Amade area that Filzmoos is part of. Very good hotels and accessible skiing. Hope this helps.

Hi Potato
If you are a bunch of testosterone-fuelled blokes who like a great night life, then Sölden is fantastic. I don't think it's so good for families or for timid skiers. |

Obergurgl is a great resort, lots of snow, bags of skiing and a really lively, compact resort - why bother going anywhere else, especially when you can ski over to Hochgurgl - enjoy!

We have stayed many, many times at Hofer Pilz in Rohrmoos. Suzy and Herbert have B&B rooms and apartments. If you contact them tell Susan Tyson recommended them. Their place has direct access to the slopes. Have a look at: http://www.hofer-hof.at/

We went to Kitzbühel many years ago and loved it.
I read a really good article about it over the weekend in either the Sunday Times or Sunday Telegraph or maybe even the Finnacial Times( can't remember which) - very positive write-up saying how much investment has gone into the resort. |
