When I learnt in Niederau we only spent the first 2 days on the nursery slopes, then our instructor had us on the reds, but I think you are right, the Oberau ski school seemed to have quite a few people in Niederau when we were there!!!

We went over to Auffach with our instructor on the last day, and we found the reds there easier than Niederau as they were a bit wider and IMO less steep (although by this point we had probably just got used to it!!).

I can't wait to be back there though, roll on 3rd Jan!!!!!

My OH had a second Xray this week, and the man said it's all healing good, probably no ligament damage, and to get some weight on it. He even ventured a view that she may be OK to ski at New Year!!

Good News Dave!

Personally I dont go in for those type of shows, its a bit like certain professions who think the only reason people break the law is because they didnt go on holiday as children!!!

I know what you mean, slightly different subject but about 10 years ago I had a serious car accident. Drunk driver, stolen car, no tax insurance or licence, hit me at 80MPH, did me a lot of damage. He had been banned six weeks previous for the same sort of thing but the nice judge said he should not have a prison sentence because of his troubled childhood and his drink and drugs problem. He should stay out of prison so he could attend AA and NA. Would have thought he could have done both of those in prison, and not been able to nick another car. He got his prison sentence after that one.

But the poor darling didnt get to go on holiday Rose, thats why!!! (I actually have heard people say that about some youth offenders, I even think there was an initiative to send these 'poor things' on holiday for their crimes!) I'm afraid the arguement doesnt do it for me. We couldnt afford holidays when I was younger but I didnt go steal cars, get drunk and crash them into innocent people so I dont see the logic! [I know Im oversimplifying here but in cases like yours Rose it just makes you mad doesnt it!!!]

Budget trip for young couple

For my first ski holiday I got completely kitted out at TK Maxx for about £130, that included Jacket, Salopettes, Thermals (Although I didnt need them as it was so warm!), ski socks, gloves, goggles.

I only got 1 jacket and 1 pair of salopettes, they would dry overnight. Only needed 1 pair of ski socks per day, normal socks for night....its unlikely you will be outside that long at night!!! Underneath I would just wear leggings and a T-shirt (thermals were to warm!). Nothing that really breaks the bank! Your jacket and salopettes are prob the most important and expensive things! Go raid your local TK Maxx!!!

re: your 2nd post i think i understand, do you mean price the whole thing myself instead of via a TO and compare the prices? i was considering this but i dont know how good an idea it is being by first ski trip...im sure its doable tho so thanks.

Hi Sami,

No, I knew I should have made myself clearer, even I got confused reading it back.

When you go on the TO website and search for a particular holiday you will get the price list of all the hotels/holidays available. When I booked, there were 2 hotels, one came up as £430, one came up as £470. When I priced up the full holiday (with ski hire etc) the £470 holiday worked out cheaper, as the £430 holiday had room supplements which added £70 to the price.

Basically I was just meaning to get the FULL holiday price for a few hotels before deciding on what looks the cheapest at first glance. But do go for the Learn to Ski package, it saves loads of hassle for your first holiday!

Let us know how you get on!
