Dave, technology can be a pain sometimes .... right?

Like AJ pointed out ... I think a lot of us are in that boat. I was able to delete the old one (again) but can't set a new one.

And the story goes on .... fix it over the summer when you can't go skiing :!:

ise,

It is as simply a thing as people not paying attention to their surroundings. For some reason these people seem to think there is no-one else on the planet. And if they do happen to realize they are not alone ... they really don't care who's path they may be invading. A lack of respect plays into this too.

This was visible at "my" hill last weekend. It was potentially a more dangerous situation than really thick "ski grabbing" snow can provide. Lots of opportunities for accidents like Tony-H mentions. People standing in groups just talking is all the wrong places. In the center of trails, right below sudden drops where they couldn't be seen from someone coming down the hill, and at the head of the queue lines.

These "dudes" who feel they must break something or terrorize the "hill" before they are having fun can cause all sorts of problems. As you say Tony, these collisions aren't accidents. They are something worse since due care prevents most injuries. An accident is something which may not be preventable. Say a failed boot, or a hidden icy patch, or tree hole in the really deep snow, or even an avalanche.

My bet is that the snowboarder who ran over your tips didn't even see you. Maybe you were on his blind side - which most don't seem to realize they have.

I still shudder when I recall an incident where a boarder was quickly approaching my wife. She was in the lead down the hill and he was gaining quickly. She was on his blind side. He past her ski tails missing them by about an inch. He still doesn't know how close he was - luckily she doesn't either. He was probably wondering what I was yelling about.

I'm in complete agreemnet with ise & Tony-H, we all must remain 100% in focus and know our surroundings. :!:

AS we all know skiing is fun and it can be perfectly safe as well - if we all pay attention.

And AJ, I'm in complete aagreement with you on this one. I thought a leash was a requirement as much as the binding brakes are. I too have seen these "torpedoes" heading down the hill. And helmets are not only a safety issue - they are warm too :!:

.... If it is your ball - sure you can..... Sometimes it is a wise move to do just that ... this is such an example :!:

But caron-a doesn't think so .... I hope she has a great trip  ... and these are my last words on the subject

AJ,

Simply put the lesson is ... we can't always have the things we want.... sometimes "life" gets in the way :!:  We must learn to roll with the punches :!:

But as a second thought caron-a, are your knee injuries too bad such that a knee brace (or two) won't help you to ski? My wife tore the ACL and partial MCL tear. With an exercise program and the aid of a brace she skied one winter before her scheduled operation date arrived. You won't have time for the exercises program but possible a brace may help.

caron-a,

Since you have decided to take the trip, I want to wish you a great time. :-) I stick to my opinion about waiting but you certainly know your circumstances far better than I do ... so have a great one :!:

And since young ones are involved I'll humbly ask that you instill in them the importance of being aware of their surroundings at all times on the slopes - for their own safety. You know, things like not stopping in the middle of the trails or talking with friends at the start of the queue lines thereby blocking access to the lines; and watching for a clear space before crossing "the travelled way"... there may just be someone coming who has "the right of way".

"My" local hill was a state this past weekend. Never before did I see so many dangerous "infractions" of these common sense "rules". So many (especially with little ones) simply were not paying attention to their surroundings. All in their own little worlds. Even the lift attendant had noticed this and had heard it from others. I did see one child sliding out of control go off a trail into the wooded area. His cries sounded that he was in great pain.

So have a great trip caron-a --- but a safe one

caron-a,

I'm in agreement with putting off your trip until you are in top notch shape. If the medical people suggest you shouldn't ski then they for that matter should give you a letter stating you should also not travel. Get them to assess you travel capabilities and when they do, as was suggested, screem in pain - if you can't feel any then imagine the pian -- just screem!!!

As far as your boys' disappointment, use this as another real life lesson. Life is full of disappointments. Although this is a disappointment to you - and I too am sorry for you - stop your crying .. many others have worse things to contend with.

Put your situation in perspective ... and all will work out.

Take care,

Mike

Thanks souldrive,

We have only 4 more weekends in our Nova Scotia season so I had better get that half hour the next time out and get this working. Last week I almost had it working but didn't spend the time to nail it.

Congratulations once more ... you have added a new life style skill to your skiing this year :!:
