Hi Snapzzz,
Having just returned from Saalbach/Hinterglemm I totally agree with you about grading inconsistency. I also suspect that resorts grade some important interconnecting runs as Blue incorrectly on purpose to attract more visitors. My wife struggled on many Blue runs there and had to revert to snow plough because of too steep a gradient. I have skied All runs there and many Red runs were no more difficult/steep as say long 2A/2B Blue run back to resort level at Saalbach. Hence I will be looking/asking fellow skiers for their recommendations for a resort with long easy blue runs for our future trips. Regards, |

Hi,
We just got back from our first trip to Saalbach/Austria. We liked many things about the area, namely: - very well connected ski circus by modern lifts, - an abundance of lovely traditional mountain huts, - general atmosphere in the resorts. We strongly recommend 2 long scenic, cruising blue runs: 1. Run no.68 to Viehhofen: at 7.5 km longest run in the area (return to Saalbach by a ski bus between 14:30 and 17:00) 2. Run no.87-88-90 to Leogang. However it could have been much better if it wasn't for: - poor and worstening by a day snow conditions - lack of easy long blue runs within the main circus. Many people staying in our hotel commented that most of the blue runs in Saalbach/Hinterglemm are in many parts Red in reality. Although not an issue with me it was an issue for my wife who is a timid intermediate. I checked a snow/weather report on this forum for Saalbach yesterday evening. It said 70 cm of snow on upper slopes and Powder!!!??? Unfortunately it was slush and wet spring snow at best as we had positive temperatures all week and some heavy raining lower down as well. Could you please recommend a resort anywhere in Alps with long easy, scenic blue runs and reliable snow for our/yours ) next ski trip? Regards, |

Hi Skyros, Thanks for your tips. We are now sorted:) We are off to Saalbach! Regards, |

Hi, There already is about 1m of snow in Saalbach :!: If you arrive early enough we can meet on the slopes ) If you are too tired there is always Pfeffer Alm half way up the mountain. I've heard they offer tobogans to drop back to the resort afterwards? Have you been to Saalbach or Pfeffer Alm before? |

Hi Legendbazz,
Your review of Bad Gastein on your return would be greatly appreciated  |

Hi, Sorry but I know nothing about any of the 2 accommodations or Lachtal. Perhaps Trip Advisor website will have some info. We are travelling from England on a package holiday to Saalbach. Regards, |

Hi,
Haven't been myself yet but done a lot of research. They are all-year-round spa resort rather than typical Austrian ski villages. Most skiers pamper themselves after skiing in one of the large world-class spas (Felsentherme % AlpenTherme). Bag Gastein livelier that Bad Hofgastein, but very steep. Superb hotels, restaurants and Cafe bars in both. Varied, but fragmented skiing. A friend of mine goes there every year (11th season running) and loves it. I would love to go myself soon:) |
