Earlier today when I should have been tidying the study, I was procrastinating & we too went to the coop. We let our friendly hen, Ruby, out & took a photo of her standing on our snowman's head. :D
Then we had a roast chicken dinner (free range of course - not Ruby though....we'd never eat her)!
Do you procrastinate?

Do you ever intend to do a job (totally unrelated to skiing) but accidentally find yourself on this website? I do it all the time

One minute I'm cleaning the kitchen, my mind wanders & next thing I'm looking at snow reports for the place I've just been to. There's no logical reason for this. It's irrelevant to me what the snow is like now.

My task today is to 'spring clean' our study - as several springs have passed & it's not been done. It's a daunting task.......but here I am again reading the latest chat & looking at webcams! What's wrong with me?
HELP! Need snow chains TODAY.

Hi - just got back from there last week - absolutely loved it. Sorry, can't help with snow chains as we got a transfer from the airport. The roads around St. Gervais were generally clear, although as I went to the bakery early in the morning there were a couple of occasions that a few vehicles were using them - but lots weren't. The forecast looks a bit more snowy than when we were there.

Have you been there before? If not I've just uploaded my photos to:

Have a great time & drive carefully.
Have you thought of St. Gervais? I've done the PDS & the Grand Massif - I've enjoyed them all, but if I could chose where to go back to for a short break, I think it would be St. Gervais.
That time... Of sadness

Well I've just got back from an amazing 10 day trip to St. Gervais. The scenery was stunning, the pistes were empty, the skiing fantastic, the town....French, the people friendly & helpful.

It could have been expensive, but we took a picnic every day & generally sat outside to eat with a view of Mont Blanc. There were picnic rooms in several locations where you could sit indoors, use the loos or buy hot drinks or snacks if you wished. We self-catered, which again could have been expensive, but we travel light, so we filled our suitcases up to the 20kg weight allowance with stuff so we didn't have to buy so much from the supermarkets.

All in all, a perfect holiday & I would recommend it to anyone. The only downside was having to come home :(
self catering in france

Hi Charlie26 - we usually self-cater & find it quite easy. I take the basics, tea, coffee, hot choc etc. I also take Swiss Bouillon for making soups etc, a few Oxo cubes, oats for porridge every day. At home I always make my own sauces etc, but have recently been experimenting with the Colemans packets of sauce mix. They are really good - just add milk, pour it over what ever meat you are cooking & 'job's a good un!' Try the lasagne one - its lovely.

I'll probably be preparing 6 evening meals & have just made a list of meal options. They are all quick & easy & I'm taking the items mentioned above, & will buy the meat, tinned toms, veg, pasta etc. out there. Obviously if you're driving, you can take the more bulky stuff with you too. My small person isn't taking ski boots this year, so a large fruit cake is going in their place!

I usually pack, weigh the bags, then add more food items if there is room. I also take things like sandwich bags, dishwasher tablets (if appropriate)a small roll of tin foil & a scouring sponge - just things that make life a little more convenient & it saves the expense of buying them out there. Some kitchen cupboards in apartments are completely emptied of food products between guests, whilst others leave things behind for the next visitors.

If you're on a budget, fill up on home made soup, bread & pasta meals - you'll be fine. Have a good time.

Glad you had a good time. We're about to head off to St Gervais - have just bought us each a small flask & intend to picnic every day! A friend has told me there are a number of facilities in the area which have 'hors sac' facilities so you can have your own picnic & buy a drink or chips if you wish. A much better idea than the 'pique-niques interdits' you normally see everywhere!

It looks like it's going to be too cold & snowy to sit out on the slopes to eat :D
