Sorry tomski - it sounds like you have forecastitis. There are quite a few fellow sufferers (me included) who frequent this site (and any other site that contains a mere mention of a snow report).

I suffered particularly badly in January prior to heading off to the Portes du Soleil - when there was no snow. I looked almost hourly to see if things were likely to change :( This irritating condition did get a little better after my return.

I'm off to La Plagne for a short break next week, so my symptoms have returned slightly, although things look much better than they did in January. My main worry now is that the car hire company at Grenoble airport say that they don't do snow chain hire unless you rent a 4WD. Has anyone got any useful advice on this? (I don't want a 4WD).

The best bet tomski is as you say - take it as you find it!!!! (Where are you going by the way)?
La Plagne 1800 - any tips?

I've just booked a short break with a couple of friends staying in La Plagne 1800 in mid March. Does anyone have any 'must do's' & 'don't bother with' tips they could share with me?

Two of us are competent intermediates, & one is an early intermediate, so we don't want to tackle anything too challenging. As we won't have the luxury of enough time to explore the area , we'd like to head straight off to the most appropriate spot to start with. I've never been to that area so would be grateful for any tips from anyone who is familiar with it. Many thanks

Hi Martin - I always use www.alp-line.com (based in Les Gets). Terry is particularly helpful. I'd say it's worth giving them a call. I think the Altibus is about 50 euros return from Geneva to Les Gets - if you can make sense of the website :?

Enjoy Les Gets!!
Thanks Pavelski for officially recognising that girls need skiing holidays too!!

Last year I had a fantastic 2 week skiing holiday with my hubby & 7 year old. On my return, a friend invited me for a week away with her on a last minute 'cheap deal'. Initially I told her that I couldn't possibly go - how could I leave the boys to fend for themselves whilst I indulged myself in another week of skiing?

Despite my misgivings, my husband thought it would be a good idea (what could his motive be I thought?). I agreed to go, but then felt very guilty, had sleepless nights, stocked the freezer, made lots of lists, briefed my friends, called in after school child care favours - then set off.

I must say, it was a very liberating experience. I could ski all day without having to carry a rucksack full of snacks, water, spare gloves, glasses, goggles, hats etc. I didn't have to ski at the back in case my son fell over & needed helping up. I didn't have to make any sandwiches, pick up any socks or remember which sports kit to pack for school. I was able to go to bed early every night with a good book & my MP3 player. It was very strange not hearing the cry of "mum" every 30 seconds!

You may call me selfish - but I think everyone deserves a little "me" time every now & then! Girls - if you're hesitating about going without the boys - don't - you won't look back. Anyway, must go & search the web for a cheap deal for this year!!

Hi - if you do a Google on 'ski shops in Yorkshire' then others in the area will come up too. The directory on this site also has a list - which I didn't know about until I just found the link back to it on Google! My husband & I both bought our boots from Decathlon in Sheffield several years ago & have been very happy with them.
To anyone heading off to Les Gets (ie Pete in his fun bus), my friend Willi has just rung me from there & he says it's fab & the best day skiing so far this season! 30cm of fresh snow, cold & sunny - what more could one ask for? Just wish I was there too :(
Don't panic Pete! They stopped selling them online because they will have had to change the price on a daily basis due to the deteriorating snow conditions and the fact that the number of runs & lifts open has been reducing daily. (This happened when I was there a few weeks ago).

You will be able to buy them once you get there, & looking at the forecast, things should be getting much, much better. Remember much of Les Gets is on pasture land so it doesn't need a lot of snow to be skiable.

Is there room for me on the fun bus? I was in Les Gets for 2 weeks & had to ski at Avoriaz every day so feel that I've missed out. Have a great time & because I'm not in therapy yet, I will be checking out the webcams & forecasts on a daily basis!! :?
