I enjoy getting away at Xmas to avoid the overindulgence and crazy commercialism at home.

Snapzzz is right.....
Not a lot to show it is Xmas, maybe a santa arriving on skis, maybe a few fireworks. On Boxing day it seems to be traditional to ski in fancy dress. |

I've never stayed there but I know the building.
It is a huge 1970's high rise block. Definitely budget accommodation but no loss for that as long as you know what to expect. If I were looking for self catering in Courchevel I would consider 1550 where things are noticeably less expensive than 1850 and with great access to skiing and for pedestrians as well. See what you can find in 1550 for a similar price? |

We skied Christmas week in 3V a couple of years ago (Courchevel based).
Just about everything was open and that was a late snowfall season. Wasn't busy at all (compared with Easter for example). I used the overnight sleeper to Bourg St Maurice a couple of years ago. Eurostar to Paris, swap stations, sleeper down to the Alps. It worked well - but the six berth cabins were very cramped - if I did this again I would splash out on a four berth cabin. This gave me nearly two full days more skiing. Out and up about 10.30 in the morning after arriving and finished 3.00pm on the final day before getting the overnight back to Paris and home. |

Yes I have and I reckon you will have some good snow.
Obviously seasons vary but they have lots of artificial capacity. I would eat my bobbly if you couldn't get back to Val Claret on reasonable snow and would expect the bowl between Val and Tignes to be at least partially open. The Palafour side should have some open runs. If I were going for the start of the season it is where I would choose. As an aside - I have skied in Tignes every month of the year! |

Suggest hiring a car - public transport, even in resort, is far less available than in the winter.
