WILL THERE BE SNOW!!
Started by User in Switzerland, 1 Reply
No, there won't be any snow near Basel in May/June. Winter season usually finished end of April. You need to head to areas with glaciers, like Zermatt but it's quite a journey.
So, same as everywhere... :( :(

Snow showers don't bring 10-20 cm of snow, 1-2 cm is a typical amount of snow that falls with snow showers. For 10-20 cm it takes a proper snow fall not a shower.

Where is all the snow?

yeah, the snow forecast for the past weekend never really materialised. It tried to "snow" on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but the combined 3-day effort probably brought about 1.5cm total. The worst thing is that it doesn't feel like it will snow in the nearest future. All the clouds are low-lying, and abouve 2000 - 2200m the skies are clear and sun is shining. Locals say that no big snow will arrive until January. We had very dry December last year which destroyed the base, but this year there is no base to speak of yet :( But it did get colder, so they should be able to make snow at least for the pistes.

But also stiff and unforgiving.

Not sure. I just tested Racetiger GS and at no point did I feel the ski was about to kill me. I suppose SC will have more mellow character since it's made more for cruising than racing.

Just because people booked their holidays doesn't mean it will start snowing. December is a very risky month to book your only or even one of the few ski holidays unless you don't mind other activities but skiing. At the moment even with the snow conditions are not worth a trip and not even worth carrying skis to the lift. But it's not unusual for December. Everyone wants and hopes for snow but there isn't anything anyone can do about it. Book higher resorts and book resorts with glaciers if it absolutely must be in December or just book later in the season.
