:)Of course not. This I decided to leave for next season. I have custom footbeds from my old boots but even those stayed at home. I had first to test my new boots so that I knew what kind of adjustments they needed - I don't believe in all this custom fitting when you don't know exactly how they feel on your feet straight from the shop. As for breaking them in - they were real heroes this weekend in Zermatt. 3 hours skiing on Friday, 5 on Saturday and on Sunday after skiing all day in knee-deep powder (and this is ON the slopes) I also managed to apres-ski in them till almost 10pm, walked home and was on slopes by 9.30 yesterday with my feet and legs feeling no ill effects whatsoever. I'll mould them in December for a slightly tighter fit but overall they felt as if they were made for my feet. I guess I am lucky. :D |

Reading this forum has inspired me not to delay buying new boots till net season. I just bought a new pair of ski boots, had free morning and just before going to the office stopped by a small shop or rather a warehouse. Piece of cake, they didn't have a huge choice especially of women's boots in my size as the season is ending and they are normally closed for business from mid-June till end of August but the third pair I tried was perfect. Stiffer, lighter than my old Sollys and much tighter fitting at the heel. Took about 15 min. Looks like I'll be able to hit the slopes tomorrow straight off the train.

You don't need to know German for online shopping - you can choose English as the language, there is normally such option on their websites.

Check German online retailers. www.snow-expert.de, www.sport-kaechele.de, www.skixpress.de or Conrad. There are of course more and they carry many brands. For those living in Europe it can be a better option because delivery is cheaper. As for brands Mammut and Arc'teryx make good clothing and many others as well.

Forgot to mention that thermal baths are free if you have a ski pass:)

Of course weather follows the pattern, only patterns in April differ from ones in February. I go skiing every weekend from December to end of April and know from experience that closer to the season end conditions may change from one weekend to another. Tignes is high altitude, so there will be enough snow left for sure, but nothing can guarantee its quality will be the same over the period of almost two weeks. Even when it's snowing this snow is different - heavier for one. That's why I don't think there is much point in stressing over conditions unless you have an option of chosing where to go in a very short notice according to snow reports:) Good luck anyway and have a great time!

Leukerbad in Switzerland. Probably not the cheapest but there you can ski in the morning and go to one of its thermal spas in the evening. The latter is what this resort is very famous for so you don't get the usual loud ski crowd. But skiing is very decent and definitely underated.
