New skis :D

My friend - who skis since she was 6 - had the most horrendous knee injury, after which she needed an operation (probably another one as well) and could get back into skiing so she's learning the board now. And it happened after the most innocent of falls, which would normally leave only your ego bruised. She was going almost straight downohill at the end of a big slope turn and hit a litte dimple. She fell straight forward on her face, but her binding didn't release as she wanted to set it tighter earlier in the shop - we went for the long mogul run where you can't afford to lose your ski.
Current conditions in Tignes?

Sorry to disappoint you, but at this time of the season conditions change very quickly. No point telling you it's been great last couple of days as in 10 days it can be rubbish. It should (I would even say "will") be skiable and take the rest as a bonus since you are already going. On a positive note it snowed last few days pretty much everywhere in this part of Alps and more snow is expected. On a negative note, temperatures didn't drop as much as it was hoped to. It's colder, but it's not cold at all - people are sitting outside if it's not raining.
I'm buying new ski boots

good luck Ally, looking forward to your report. Just make sure you don't get boots that will be too soft (don't get them too stiff either). By what you are saying you've been skiing for quite a while even that you prefer taking lot of lessons. So you are running a risk that they'll give you very low flex boots which whereas being dead comfortable are also guaranteed to stop you progressing. Ask for boots that without being too stiff will still make your ankles work with you being aware of it. And bear in mind that the liner will pack after a season or two (depending how often you ski) . After mine did I've beein skiing in boots that are a little bit too big and once I moved up to more serious skis I got a proper feeling of it and they kicked my butt a couple of times on steeps where I was definitely doing everything right but it was taking extra moment to transfer into skis, so now I can't wait to get new boots. Good luck and don't them lure you into buying something you'd be wanting to get rid off this time next year!

Feet warmers - the ones that you insert in your boots - are also great. You can buy them at amazon, they are not expensive and very useful when it's really cold and you need to do lot of traverse and drag lifts.

Ally, what happened to your bootfitting? Did you get the boots in the end? Which ones? I am looking for a pair boots and even that I was going to postpone buying a new pair till next season, I think I will get them this weekend in Zermatt - better chance to get a good price in the end of the season.
The Ski Helmet Debate

I think for kids until they are at least 16 and for adults skiing off-piste helmets should be a must. For off-piste back protection also does a good job.
St Gervais this Weekend

Nice carvers. But really depends on snow conditions. Not ideal for powder days or off-piste (unless it's very packed). May fly them to St. Gervais AND have to get another pair locally. But given the time of the season they can still be OK.
not driving up until later tonight but can confirm that it definitely became colder in few hours between this morning and afternoon, and it was really nice to wake up and see the rain.

Snow gods were very kind and a big dump of snow is expected pretty much all over the French and Swiss Alps. Starting from tomorrow. It was looking poor last weekend.
