Well, if you are into some off-piste, powder etc. then switching to the West Cost of US might not be a bad idea. Pistes start taking a good shape (though it's warming up again, so snow-making will likely to be affected) but for anything else it will take another 1.5m of snow to fall. Not sure how likely it is. A friend is currently on a bump course in Tignes, says skiing on glacier is good and there are bumps that are skiable, but caution is needed as the snow cover is not optimal.

Seems like all the precipitation reserved for the year fell during the summer months when it rained almost non-stop. Now, even when it's raining, the rain is very light and stops after 30 minutes...

No local weather station predicts any significant dumps of snow any time soon. Maybe a dusting, but that doesn't count. I will stick with what people in resort say - nothing until January... In this way, expectations are low and if snow falls earlier it will be a great bonus. Pistes are slowly getting in good shape, so this will have to do.

Bleak. Well, last summer in Switzerland (and I heard in many parts of Europe) was the worst since records began with no week passed without two days of pouring rain at least so won't be a huge surprise if it's followed by the worst winter of a stable high pressure ... It's raining/trying to snow in GVA now, but it's not the kind of rain/snow that is likely to dump any significant amount in the mountains, a cm at best. I remember the weather we had during big snow storms of 2-3 season ago and it's nowhere near that at the moment. |

looks like at Christmas slopes will be very busy. It doesn't seem like any decent snowfall is expected soon, so lot of terrain will remain closed with a possibility of some lower-lying resorts shipping their tourists to resorts that are higher... I love my Christmas in the mountains but I wish we had another month to it to give it a chance to snow properly...
