We went to Les Gets in March 2008 and my then 7 year old had 5 days of ski school with the British Ski School out there. I had a one hour private lesson, also with BASS, and it totally changed my skiing. I can't recommend them highly enough - if Andy is still there then ask for him!
They managed to get my almost beginner son turned into a confident skier who considers himself "more of an off piste sort of skier" now. Hilarious.... |

I take: Camelback otherwise I "forget" to drink water (for that read can't be arsed to get the bottle out of husband's rucksack), camera, walkie talkie, ipod, sunblock, lip balm and sunglasses. But I'm a girl so you won't need half of that stuff ;)

Is there anywhere that has Green/Beginner Slopes with Cable car access?

I dealt with my fear of heights/cable cars by going up the Aiguille du Midi :)
I still hate them, but my desire to ski is greater than my fear - most of the time.... |

I'm so jealous!!
We lived on York St, used to spend an indecent amount of time & money in The Brunswick.... I pretty much learned to ski at Cairngorm & The Lecht. Couldn't understand where the rocks & mud were when I finally went to a French resort ;) |

We're away to Les Houches on 2nd January - husband is being sent up into the loft this morning to get the gear down.... :)
Pablo, how's the Scottish white stuff coming along? I lived in Glasgow until march this year - gonna miss the early morning runs to Glencoe! |

Absolutely agree about the lessons - I've skiied for 6 weeks and lots of days in Scotland, and I have at least a couple of hours of private lessons every time I go skiing. Last year in Les Gets I had an hour with a BASS instructor who changed my skiing entirely in that one hour - my husband couldn't believe the difference in my skiing the next day, and I got far more out of the rest of the week as a result.
As for boots - yes, definitely invest! Again it made a big difference to me, especially as I have custom made footbeds to sort out my knee! |

I have a problem with my right knee, and when I bought my ski boots 4 years ago I spent £30 on having custom footbeds made for them, which are removable. Best £30 I ever spent - I can ski all day in comfort now, whereas without them I could only do an hour without bad backache!
If you have any kind of problem that needs your foot to be stable then it's worth the investment. |

Norway is tear inducingly expensive once you're there!
