Gonna book for Montgenevre!

Great website. I really wanted to go to MontG this year but for some reason we changed our minds - maybe lack of availability among tour operators, or perhaps long transfers. Can't remember exactly. Would prefer to fly into Turin if it means a short transfer. Will keep a close eye on the snow this year and definitely consider MontG, maybe with a diy option rather than a package.

Wickers - isn't East Anglia err - flat??
Very interesting. Gets good reviews on Tripadvisor as well. I would love to visit Japan.

4 years ago when I just started to learn, I skied straight through some tables belonging to a cafe at the bottom of the nursery slope. I have also been seen doing a limbo underneath various guide ropes, and get tangled up in that funny plastic netting that marks the edge or end of pistes.

Last year in Les Carroz there was a button lift that was quite steep and also started off with a vicious lurch. I fell off that twice before giving up and finding an alternative way up!

This year, I was standing beside husband, minding my own business - when he suddenly just toppled sideways for no reason and pushed me over as well, much to the amusement of by-standers.

When it comes to making a prat of myself in front of complete strangers, I could make it an olympic sport!

We stayed at the Jenewein, which is right next to the Rosskarbahn chairlift and the Hohe Mut Bahn. Friendly staff, excellent service and loads of food! It has a wellness area as well with sauna and jacuzzi.

Skiing without chair lifts?

In Obergurgl you can get the Festkoglbahn up from resort level and there are several blue runs at the top, one of which (No. 6) runs right back into the village again. There is also a t-bar draglift at the top. There is also the Hohe Mut Bahn at the other end of the village. If you get off at the mid-station, you can ski the end of Run 6 back to the village. (Don't go up the second stage, as that's a red run). You can also get a gondola across to Hochgurgl and my map indicates that there are loads of blue runs in Hochgurgl, some of which are served by more gondolas.

This year was my first experience of using a chairlift and it was scary the first time, but I did get used to it eventually.

Got back yesterday. We had a whole week of bluebird days. Daytime temp in resort was up to 13 degrees C. Clear nightime skies meant that most nights the temp dipped below zero, enabling them to use the snow-making machines. Lowest runs were icy early on, but by about 10am the temps were getting on for 3 degrees, so the surface softened nicely. By the afternoon, the runs back into the resort were very slushy - puddles everywhere at resort level.

Did we like it? You bet! The people were friendly, the food in our hotel was abundant and yummy. Everything was sparkly clean - including the toilets at the Nederhutte - nicer than many I've encountered in posh restaurants in London! Beer prices seemed ok - about 4 euros for a large beer and similar for 0.25 litre glass of house wine.

One of my abiding memories will be the plane's approach to Innsbruck airport - spectacular! Coming in along the valley with mountains seemingly only feet away on each side of the aircraft!

We will definitely return some day. Maybe we wouldn't go so late in the season, but we managed fine and our beginner-level skiing improved loads. Our daughter (10) had 3x 2-hour lessons privately with Maria (surname begins with a W) and she was super - took her all over the place, including the top station.

Let me know if anyone has any questions.
