Got back yesterday. We had a whole week of bluebird days. Daytime temp in resort was up to 13 degrees C. Clear nightime skies meant that most nights the temp dipped below zero, enabling them to use the snow-making machines. Lowest runs were icy early on, but by about 10am the temps were getting on for 3 degrees, so the surface softened nicely. By the afternoon, the runs back into the resort were very slushy - puddles everywhere at resort level.
Did we like it? You bet! The people were friendly, the food in our hotel was abundant and yummy. Everything was sparkly clean - including the toilets at the Nederhutte - nicer than many I've encountered in posh restaurants in London! Beer prices seemed ok - about 4 euros for a large beer and similar for 0.25 litre glass of house wine.
One of my abiding memories will be the plane's approach to Innsbruck airport - spectacular! Coming in along the valley with mountains seemingly only feet away on each side of the aircraft!
We will definitely return some day. Maybe we wouldn't go so late in the season, but we managed fine and our beginner-level skiing improved loads. Our daughter (10) had 3x 2-hour lessons privately with Maria (surname begins with a W) and she was super - took her all over the place, including the top station.
Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Hi Allie,
I'm glad you had a good time and your ski-ing improved, in spite of the ice, slush and puddles! :D
We went to Obergurgl 4 years ago in January, and there was very little snow, depthwise, and lots of ice (but quite skiable). We have also been to Borovets in January and had little snow and puddles in the resort (it was a good thing I'd brought my wellies). Yet ski-ing in La Rosiere at Easter 3 years ago we had masses of snow (deep powder),and the same at Tignes this season in October. So I guess it all depends on what sort of season it is, and luck. Another time you might have loads of fresh snow in Obergurgl at the end of March.

You picked a sensible place to go this time of year, shame conditions this year have been as crap as I have known in my short ski life.
The approach into Innsbruck really is amazing, isn't it?
And drink prices up to half of France? Its a no brainer.
Glad you had a blast.

We stayed at the Jenewein, which is right next to the Rosskarbahn chairlift and the Hohe Mut Bahn. Friendly staff, excellent service and loads of food! It has a wellness area as well with sauna and jacuzzi.

Hi Allie
Glad you had a good time. We were there at Obergurgl the week after you! We stayed at the Jenewein as well! We had a great time although snow was not the best. It got very warm (20C at the village on a couple of days!!). It was icy in the morning and slushy by lunchtime. We are thinking of going back at Christmas. Have you been there in December? Just wondering what it is like at Christmas time?

It should be great at Christmas, although I have not been over the holiday period I have been on a white week (early December) for the last three years. Its always been very good conditions however, the weather can be a mix of bluebird and winter storms and as such some lifts, like the link to Hochgurgl can be closed.
Go for it, you will have a blast
