Have done that drive serveral times in the last few years and never had any need for snow chains, but i guess theres alwasy a first....

The roads are pretty well sign posted and I've never had a problem finding my way even when travelling solo on my second trip.

I'm in Zell am See 1-4 Feb and hope to get one day in Saalbach as I need to check out accommodation for a group of us next year, the run down from Bernkogel is one of my favourites so I'll try and check it out and let you know.

I was supposed to be there this week for 3 days, but thankfully flu last week led me to cancel and re-book to Austria in 10 days time instead.

Might tap you for some info shortly if you don't mind. I'm determined to ski at Nevis Range sometime this winter - I worked in Fort William for a few years when they were just building it and I've been up on the Gondola a few times in summer..... maybe this year in the snow....

Val d'Isere/Tignes was good in late April last year, we're going back again on 19/4 for a week so fingers crossed.

Just started looking for our group for January 2010 - we are interested in a catered Chalet in Austria for a change to take about 16-20 of us. We have our eye on Saalbach at the moment but we'll look at other resorts.

If anyone has any suggestions of properties or companies that could help we'd be very grateful.

Got to agree - I get back to Zell am See at least once a year!

My determination paid of in the end, I managed to book direct with the hotel I originally wanted and the whole trips is costing us about £110 less each DIY than it was in the original 'package' offered - and that's after we've added in a decent sized hire car for the duration of our trip. So we might just pop over to Saalbach for a day whiel we're there.

All's well that ends well..... Looking forward to skiing on Schmittenhohe, was really dissapointed that it wasn't open when I was in Kaprun at end Nov. We were there when the big snow finally arrived - I think it opened later that week.

Anyway... rambling... sorry !
