Getting fit for skiing

Loaded heaps of weight on in St A/Niederau, entirely alchohol related.

Have only had one glass of wine since returning, (to toast Tony's survival), and have lost 12 lb. Now below normal weight.

Three and a half weeks to go, before our Niederau re-union, ~ all saying how nice it will be, renewing friendships, no competitiveness, ......Aye RIGHT! Competition will be rife, not just among the old ski instructors, but now between generations!

Need to lose a bit more weight, and strengthen the knee.

Yes, a "hall of shame" sounds like a plan... to be useful though it would have to include a sense-to-wibble ratio... 8)

Could be a PHD in it for you, Pablo, in working out that ratio list. -)

At least you know that Norwich is in Norfolk, as for "N" I think I'll stick with a good book

Glad you are back Ian, missed your rapid wit!

Sorry about the car, but hope LGB was good for you.

Apologies, Tony, I know that S/A is overdue. I have the notes and the photos, but have not been able to put in the required time, (poor excuse)
I have only been back a week, and we have had a family thing, visit to see our previous guide dog working, and I have spent two days organising tennis club membership, coaching and web site for the coming season. At least another week of that stuff before my next trip.

Must do better. Try and make allowances. -)

One of my favourites, because you can really let rip.
There was a hold up in the planning permit over the summer, but I had a couple of runs with the head of the tourist board ~ he was saying the permit is now released and the piping will laid in the summer.

This is what skiing used to be like, prior to the introduction of snow making machines, and before piste machines. No groomed pistes!

Champagne powder, chopped snow, moguls, ice, stones, mud. - In descending order, and progressing through the season!

The Hochberg used to be used for international downhill training, but this ceased when a member of the Polish team sadly was killed, going off into the trees.

All the training is now focussed in the Tennladen Race Arena. This year, there has been a switch from provision of downhill traing, so the speed gun has gone, and there is no longer a watered iced course. But the slalom area has been enhanced. So the British Junior team and the Japanese team were both back, and this year, with the Canadian team, just before Kitsbuhle weekend. Chatted to many of them on my frea morgan run.
Hi Sandy, welcome to J2 ski.

I have skied in Vail, Keystone, Beaver Creek, Arapahoe Basin, and Breckenridge, and was most impressed with the mountain management. It seemed to me that many pistes are managed half pisted, half unpisted, thus allowing a mogul field to develop. I have always thought this was a smart way to organise, because people can dip in and out, and thus build up experience.

In general, European resorts tend to have pisted or unpisted runs. Thus smaller resorts tend to piste all of their runs, because in that way they can maximise on groomed km/milage.

I am not mogul freak, and I have not detected others on J2 of that ilk. From my forages on mogul fields I suggest:
France ~ Val D'Isere
Austria ~ St Anton area, Stuben, Rendl
Switzerland ~ Zermatt, Saas Fee

Although you indicate that you do not care for large resorts, I think the general trend in Europe is that big mogul fields are to be found in large steep resorts. Maybe, you might aim for an outlying village, in the lift system.

Others will enlarge, no doubt.
