Jungles are hot, Ian! However, I agree with you about not listening to music, when skiing. Or rather, staying alert, and being fully aware. Skiing is a wonderful way of life, but there are dangers.

I have twice been wiped out, on both occasions there was a split second of sound, which allowed me to brace against the impact. One of these would have put me out of the game for a good while, as it was, the other guy needed treatment.
No smoking in Valais

Austria really lets itself down. From Jan 2009, bars & restaurants over 50 sq metres have to provide a non-smoking area greater than half of the area. Below 50 sq metres, the innkeeper can decide. There is very little in the way of employee protection. Any bans on smoking is regularly flouted.

Like Bandit, I used to go down to a local pub. Came one very smoky night, I walked round, and everyone in the pub was smoking. Put down my pint and didn't go back for two years. Now, I only go every couple of weeks, just because there is a music night.

In my first season, 71, I fixed Ess 3 bindings on to my 215 Kneissl White Star. The skis were as stiff as, I don't know how any of us managed to make any turns at all ~ the length was a macho thing.

The bindings were lethal, a very high COF!
Well spotted, Pablo. That was me in the second b&w clip, just before Hannes Scheider! Gosh, it certainly brings back memories. Then you could go into a ski shop with a £5 note, and come out with ski jacket, racing trousers, pair of boots and two pairs of skis. You can't do that now. Too many CCTV cameras about.

Great shot at 2m 50s of the guy in the deep. The most striking thing for me is all these guys bouncing down in the deep on 210 skinnies.

Faaantastic!
Skiset mid-range ski price is 88 Euros, £80. You can try a couple of pairs of skis, and you don't have to carry them about.

Obviously a lot more runs in Auffach.Maybe a lot of people go there.
I don't know why it is so popular. It's not for the nightlife.

Well you can ski a lot of resorts in a day. Niederau is like a good woman, it takes a lot of exploring. I only had 40 years trying. For both.

Unlike many places, you can get a lot of skiing in, during your day.

I kind of like the odd day in Auffach, but the skiing there is much easier, and the runs are shorter. The snow quality is normally better than N. since the skiing is a bit higher.

Nightlife between 5.00 and 7.00pm centres around Gunters. A couple of weeks ago, it is reported there was some old guy dancing on the bar. Disgraceful.

However, like Wickers, I prefer a couple of beers, then early bed. I do value the Harp music nights though.

Skinnies, maybe?

I knew if I hung on to them long enough, they would come back into fashion!
