Just to turn it on it's head, Littleski, in the mid 70's I bought a flight to Aussie, with the offer of a friends floor for a week.
Day 1~ slept Day 2 ~ bought newspaper, applied for jobs Day 3 ~ bought a banger of a car for $100, attended 2 job interviews Day 4 ~ started working, looked at apartments Day 5 ~ thanked my friends, moved into apartment, 30 yards from beach. Hired skis & boots in ski shop, George St, Sydney Day 6 ~ drove to Perisher, skied for 5 days. No planning, no mobile, no internet |

There could be enough to keep you occupied in Tampere, Tino. When I was driving back from Lapland, (long time ago), I stayed a few days in Tampere. At that time, it's claim to fame was to have the highest gal/guy ratio, in Europe, I think. |

I noticed that, Caron. -) We could have a happy party! I'm having a great time. Learned yesterday of a possible happy family event later in the year. Today, we were up at Forfar, watching our last guide dog working. Then she, and our current dog had a good chase around. Have planned some Cairngorm skiing. And finalising our next 2 week ski. How are you C? |

Have had my worst preparation for a winter ever, and managed one of my higher milages ever, without really putting a great deal of effort in, and taking time off during the day to meet with friends. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
However, I do not think that skiing is just a fitness issue. My beliefs are that you need to attend also to strength, mobility and technique. Strength ~ Anyone can run into a potential trouble spot, and need to take quick avoiding action. Having strong leg muscles is a safety issue. If you have a long term injury, strength and strength endurance preparation will improve the average ski performance. Mobility ~ Retaining good mobility will reduce the chances of injury. Technique ~ The better is one's technique, the less energy is used in skiing. Additionally, if you are unable to relax the thigh muscles during the turn, then after about a minute, lactic acid build-up will occur, leading to the "burning thigh" feeling. |

Very glad that you are OK, Tony.
I hold up my glass, (nearly empty), of white wine, and drink to your continuimg good health. First taste of alchohol for 5 days, so am glad to put it to a good use. |

You can register on Ski Line, and key in your ski pass number, no toys, no cost.

Just checked the SkiLine for last weeks skiing.
Total skiing for the 9 days, 545km 21/70/49/83/93/57/70/73/26 km First and last day were travel days, so short days. Average of remaining days, 71 km per day. Like Tino, I am sure these distances are under the actual. One reason is that they could not possibly take account that some of the runs involved poling over to the Tennladen run, nor the particular lines on any run. I calculate that the 83 and 93km days are under counted by at least 8/9km. I also lost about 4 runs in assisting with accidents. |
