whilst i agree Ian, unfortunately they do a rather good job. for example i've priced up holidays to austria on a diy basis and TO and can't see enough of a difference to make it worthwhile. maybe it's me and i'm not looking in the right place but i'd prefer to pay that little bit more in return for not having the stress of having to book all the individual parts

interetingly popped in to Thomson yesterday to price up a holiday to Niederau. Wanted to fly into Salzburg due to the possbile delays associated with flying into Innsburck only to find out that TUI (Thomson/Crystal/First Choice) are streamlining their flights / transfers and now only offer Niederau in to Innsbruck. Seems that despite huge price hikes the tour operators are still feeling the pinch!

DaveMac - still got the Volkl, used them extensively in Mayrhofen last year in varied conditions and couldn't fault them, not brilliant off piste although that may well be more down to my expertise rather than the skis

thanks for the pointers on Niederau, what's your opinion of the Harfenwirt and the Austria, the Sonnschein is looking like too much of a walk as we really wanted to be as close to the piste as possible.

Given the choice i'd go back to Mayrhofen but the wife wants to try somewhere different, she seems to like Scheffau, any reports good or otherwise??

as long as you're not over 5ft 8 you'll be fine, it is what it is, cheap and cheerful, if you're in the slightest way tall then prepare to be VERY uncomfortable!

MAYRHOFEN

Perfect for boarding, very few flats, varied terrain and hardly any pull lifts!!

Its a good shout. And its always cheap to get to. HOWEVER, Freezy went there last January.

good memory Tony, and we couldn't possibly go back, could we?? there's always Niederau.......

Hi

the wife wants to learn to board and in the interest of maintaining marital bliss i've agreed, so the question is where is the best place from experience to go? We've excluded France for a nmuber of reasons but really we're looking at Austria or Italy, we're looking to travel 6th March next year.

Any pointers gratefully accepted.
