I first went to Courchevel in 1985 and it was expensive then.
The trouble is that unless you know which restaurants/bars are after the high end trade - and lets face it Courchevel has built it's reputation on being the swishest of French resorts - it is difficult not to be "shocked" when the bill comes. I agree that it is not much fun when one gets the idea that before going in for anything from a beer to a full meal the tarif has to be scrutinised beforehand. There are less expensive places in all the resorts and up the hill but no real way of knowing just from looking from the outside - it's not even about posh decor! I am being brave this year and looking forward to going to Serre Chevalier - it will be interesting to see just how the prices compare. I will report back. |
