I went in January this year, it was the first time our trip had taken us here. The skiing is good, no doubt about that, lots of variety and challenges. The town itself is a real drawback, a ghost town until after 9pm so the early apres ski that we have enjoyed in the 3V and Lech (to mention 2) is non existent, unless you want the Folie. Would we go back? Probably not, we found it's all a bit soulless and when compared to other places (Morzine, Les Arcs, etc...) there are better places to choose. Only my opinion of course, and I'm glad we went but I would go for others above it. Good luck in making your choice!

Hi all, hope you've had a great season
On top of our trip to the 3V next January we have managed to squeeze a week in Samoens too, this time in March (cue typing this like an excited child on xmas eve) The area of Samoens looks great, but if anyone has been and can offer reviews on the usual....bars, must do runs (all colours please), bars, restaurants, bars etc it would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation Steve |

I think it's a very good point that no car is needed in Chamonix, the bus service is superb. For someone who has (seemingly) enjoyed mainly blues, I too would hang on for a bit more experience and make the most of what the place has to offer.
The point made by Richard on the 3v is very valid, plenty of different terrains and pistes to try, and all interlinked......no waiting for buses. Just a point on recommendations. Have you considered Austria? Lech is a fantastic resort and well worth considering. Personally my choice is the 3V everytime, but good luck in choosing. Steve |

I've stayed in Mottaret for 4 years, done self catering twice and catered chalet twice also. We loved the location as for getting around the 3V it's hard to beat, and comparing it to other areas it's a little easier on the wallet.......but only just.
Given a choice, next time I will go for the Meribel centre, the bars are better then Mottaret and it is more pleasing to the eye. There is a frequent bus running up to Mottaret though, but seeing as we got the police called on us last year for getting the entire bus singing tainted love (grumpy bus driver!) maybe avoiding the free transport next time we go could be an idea. Wherever you end up you will love it, it's a fabulous place to be. |

New jacket for me, finally crumbling to the pressure of going for a brighter colour. Salomon as usual, as I have long arms and the fit is good for me. At least now I am in tangerine/clementine (surely this is just 'orange') I can be seen easily at the bar.

I was gutted they cancelled the Manchester shows, but saying that it seemed to have far less than the shows in London, which was a shame.

Ranchero has a good point. This kit is pretty much worthless now. As a suggestion, keep them for spares in case you hit a dry or indoor slope in the UK? That's what I've kept my old skis for, if they get damaged then there's no painful cries of "what have I done?!!!!"
