Arhhhhhhhhhhhhh, bugaroo. Have recovered my energy levels, but my knee is like a wet Glasgow Herald. Don't think I'll be able to manage again this season...........

Maybe, if I hire some 140s, and snowplough a lot.....

It's just the feeling, man. There's nothing like the skiing feeling.

Sell house, buy out of London, no mortgage, a bit of money in the bank, explore/research the Alps for a season and look for small bar/cafe! :D

Mmmmm my concern is whether you would drink all the profits

Just scrubbed your name off list of people to invite for a free accomodation.

I think you are just perfect for your new venture, snowb4!

Ally, that is a super report on the boot buying process. Thank you.
Invest three years in becoming a capable skier. After that, you may elect to continue with lessons.
Long term, your progress will be much quicker

Ally where are you :?:
I am more than a little concerned as to your whereabouts ,after reading your post concerning rolling up your trousers & showing your knobbly knees & hairy legs you may have booked in to an initiation meeting at a masonic lodge instead of a boot fitting.
Please get in contact with us :)

brooksy, it's a typical J2ski membership ritual...had you not heard about it

Brooksy, if you show daylight between your legs, you cannot possibly be ........

Hi Dave. I read in another post of yours that you practise ski technique throughout the year and then try to put it into practice when you ski. I'd like to ask how you practise during the year ? Do you mean you use artificial slopes, or watch dvds, or what ? Somebody mentioned a dvd called Sofa Ski School elsewhere. Do you know this one and is it any good ? As a beginner turning into an early intermediate I'm determined to improve within my capabilities, but without setting any unrealistic or "macho" goals for myself - too old !

I have been skiing for 42 years, and I still study ski technique all year. When I am away skiing, I take time out just about everyday to practise some aspect or other. There is always something new to learn, and this is a sport that I love and respect.

For study, I devour ski technique books, and watch some on-lines. I have mixed feelings about the static demos on Ski Sofa, but no reservations at all about the dynamic demos.

I might even go to Niederau myself one day, so that Dave Mac can teach me to dance - if his wife doesn't mind
Ally

I think my OH would be highly amused. My minimal dancing capabilities are restricted to Scottish Country ~ and even then, I have to ask my OH if I know this one!

I do enjoy a good "Strip the Willow"!

That's the thing with a lot of joint issues, it's use it, or lose it. I have a friend who according to his Ortho and the mris should be on crutches with an arthritic hip. He makes mores runs than any of us on an alpine board, and MTBs all summer. His Doc says if he ever stops moving, he'll be a cripple.

Glad your season was so good.

Thanks Trencher. One of my old instructor friends already had two replacement plastic hips, when he had a bad fall last year, broke both femurs, and both hip joints. So, he was out again on skis this year! I am not in as bad a condition as your friend or mine, but I am aware of my own mortality, (and if I wasn't, there is no shortage of J2skiers to remind me!)

But I do think the "use it, or lose it", is valid. I did muse, when I was at or near the head of the queue for the first Gondola, how few, non-oldies were there. It gets tougher every year!
